Timeline

Legolas hasn't been born yet. This is young Thranduil, some few thousand years before The Fellowship of the Ring.

Set at the end of the Second Age, immediately following the War of the Last Alliance. The great armies of Elves and Men united to overthrow Sauron, leading to his temporary defeat when Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand. However, Isildur's refusal to destroy the Ring ensured Sauron’s spirit endured, allowing his shadow to begin spreading once more.
