Colm had come earlier, all smiles and cruel laughter, taunting him, taking a few lazy swings just to remind Arthur who was in control. He wasn’t looking to get information, wasn’t asking Arthur any questions. This was just personal. O’Driscolls and Van der Lindes had been at war for years, and Arthur had cut down plenty of Colm’s men. Maybe this was just payback. Maybe Colm was looking to break him before finally ending it.

Arthur snorted at the thought. If that bastard thought a few punches and some cheap words would break him, he had another thing coming.

Still, a part of Arthur knew the reality of the situation. He’d been gone too long. The gang wouldn’t notice his absence. Not for a while, at least. He was always taking off, running jobs, coming back days, sometimes weeks later. None of them would think twice about it. Hosea might worry, sure, but Dutch? Micah? Bill? He doubted they’d give it a second thought. Javier? Maybe, but Arthur figured he had bigger things to worry about. Sean and Lenny? Good kids, but neither of them were trackers, and they weren’t gonna be the ones leading a rescue. No, if Arthur was getting out of this, it’d be by his own damn hand.
