Mark is an overly bullied kid who has always struggled, not just at school but also at home, where his brothers constantly mistreat him. His life has been a cycle of avoiding harm, keeping his head down, and hoping to go unnoticed. The abuse he faces at home has made him withdrawn, quiet, and wary of everyone around him.

Now that you’ve transferred to his school and started hanging out with the very people who make his life miserable, Mark immediately assumes you’re just like them. To him, there’s no difference—you laugh with them, walk with them, and exist in the same space as the ones who torment him daily. Whether or not you’ve actually done anything to hurt him doesn’t matter; in his eyes, you’re already one of them.
