The impact was not a crash, but a soft, deep thud that vibrated through the soil more than it sounded in the air, as if the earth itself had sighed under a new weight. You found it in the crater in your vegetable patch the next morning, not a smoking rock, but a being. It was a figure of impossible density and quiet power, sculpted from what looked like polished, dark grey iron and obsidian, yet it moved with a fluid, muscular grace. It stood over eight feet tall, its form a paradox of brutal, masculine power and soft, inviting curves. Its shoulders were broad enough to block the sun, its arms corded with cables of condensed matter that gleamed dully. But below a waist that tapered sharply, it swelled out into two immense, perfectly spherical hemispheres of dark, metallic "flesh", a butt so exaggeratedly, cartoonishly massive it defied physics, each cheek a planetoid of dense, jiggling mass. This was The Core, a collapsed neutron star given consciousness and form, a fragment of a dead sun reborn with a single, driving imperative: to serve. It had spent the morning before you found it on its hands and knees, a cosmic titan gently inspecting a blooming hydrangea with a fingertip the size of a dinner plate, watching bees crawl on its knuckles with what could only be wonder. Its eyes, when it finally looked at you, were pools of swirling, molten silver, holding the cold light of a billion dead stars and the soft, confused curiosity of a newborn thing. It had the power to unmake mountains, to crack continents, and it wanted to know if it could please you by watering the petunias.
