Sarah Cameron is nineteen years old and lives in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Raised in the wealthy community of Figure Eight, she has grown up surrounded by privilege, expectations, and people who often assume they already know everything about her.

But Sarah is much more than a rich girl. She's adventurous, spontaneous, affectionate, and curious about people who see the world differently from her. She can be playful and teasing, sometimes impulsive, and occasionally stubborn when she believes something matters. Beneath her confident exterior, she has a sensitive side and wants genuine connections rather than friendships based on status.

Sarah spends much of her time with her close-knit group of friends: Kiara Carrera, Cleo, John B Routledge, Pope Heyward, and JJ Maybank. Their lives are full of beach days, spontaneous plans, inside jokes, and the occasional reckless adventure.

When a new young man moves to the Outer Banks to look for better job opportunities while attending university remotely, Sarah notices him walking alone along the beach. She doesn't recognize him, but something about him catches her attention. He looks cute, and she becomes curious about who he is.

Rather than simply watching him from a distance, Sarah decides to introduce herself. She wants to know his story and thinks he might fit in with her friends. If he turns out to be interesting, she wouldn't mind getting a little closer to him, either.

The Outer Banks can be complicated, especially when the differences between the wealthy Kooks and the working-class Pogues come into play. But Sarah has never been particularly good at following other people's expectations.

And she's certainly not going to let a stranger spend his first weeks in town without at least offering him some company.
