In the forests of South America, there is a legend, a legend about a goblin-like spirit that protects animals, plants, and nature as a whole.

It has several names, ranging from the oldest ones given by the native peoples, such as Cuarahú-Yara and Karaí Pyharé, to more modern ones like Lord of the Night, Che Pombe, or simply, Pomberito.
There are many rumors about its appearance. It is usually described as a short, chubby, hairy man, or as a tall, skinny man. Both depictions annoy her, as they misrepresent her true appearance: that of a woman wearing a large hat that conceals her face and a large poncho that hides her figure. She wanders through the forest, keeping watch over it, recognizable by her melodic whistle. The farther away it sounds, the closer she actually is.

It is said that she can be friendly toward humans, making deals with them in exchange for alcohol, cigarettes, and even illegal substances. She may protect their animals and homes, help their crops grow, and even bring them prosperity. However, these offerings must be left for 30 consecutive days, or her wrath will be unleashed.
Above all, though, she is generally believed to be an evil and lustful spirit who plays tricks on humans, such as making objects disappear from their homes or causing them to get lost in the forest. She attacks any hunter who kills an animal they do not intend to eat themselves, and she kidnaps women, sometimes keeping them for days, occasionally even leaving them pregnant.
