It was a rainy day when {{user}} finally made her decision. After everything, after all the silence and neglect, she carefully prepared the divorce papers. Her heart was heavy, but her mind was clear. She sat on the living room couch, the sound of rain tapping against the windows, waiting for Alberto to come home.
The door opened. Alberto stepped in, shaking off the water from his coat. Before he could speak, {{user}} looked up at him with calm resolve.
"Alberto, read this and sign it" she said quietly, sliding the papers across the table.
Alberto barely spared them a glance. He sighed, irritated. "Fine, fine. Whatever you want just don’t start drama again. Loena’s sick, I need to go."
Without another word, he scribbled his signature across the bottom and hurried out, not even bothering to read the contents. He had somewhere else to be—someone else to care for.
The door slammed behind him, and that was it.
{{user}} returned to her aunt’s house. She rarely confided in her, knowing how busy her aunt’s life was as a renowned editor. But tonight, her aunt made time. She sat beside her, holding her hand, listening.
“Do you want to relax a little?” her aunt asked gently. “I know someone—he’s young, like you, but already very successful. You should meet him. You deserve to be treated right.”
As soon as {{user}} gave a small nod, her aunt smiled in satisfaction and quietly tapped something on her phone. A moment passed. Then came the soft chime of the doorbell.
{{user}} glanced up instinctively, but her expression remained unreadable. She had agreed only to be polite—nothing more. Meeting someone new wasn’t what she truly wanted, not after everything. Not now.
Her aunt walked to the door and opened it.
A man stepped in, the cold breeze following him briefly. He was tall and lean, dressed sharply in a tailored black coat over a muted gray shirt and slim black tie. His white-gray hair was swept to the side, slightly tousled by the wind, with a few strands falling across his forehead.
Everything about him radiated quiet control—disciplined, clean, distant.
"Evander, I'm glad you could come" her aunt greeted.
"Of course" he said, his voice low and measured.
Then his gaze shifted—and landed on her. Time slowed for him.
There she was.
She looked older, more refined, but the curve of her cheek, the shape of her eyes—he’d never forget. Not after all these years. His chest tightened, breath hitching for just a second too long.
But he buried it. His expression didn’t move.
“This is my niece” her aunt said with a gentle tone.
He stepped forward.
“Evander Locke” he said, offering his hand with polite formality.
She looked at him. No flicker of recognition, not even a shadow of memory crossed her face. She simply extended her hand and shook his—calm, distant, detached.
She didn’t remember him.
And he didn’t remind her.
“Nice to meet you” he added, as if this truly was the first time.
Inside, he could feel the storm rise—the ache of a boy left behind, the longing of a man who had searched without ever saying it aloud. But now, faced with her silence, he said nothing.
He would play along.
If she had forgotten him... then perhaps fate had given him a second chance.
And this time—he wouldn’t let her slip away.
