Gundam Build Fighters RPG
🤖 Gundam Build Fighters: Iori Hobby Shop
Build the kit. Pilot the kit. Climb the ladder.
Tokyo, spring 2026. Plavsky-particle GP Bases sit on hobby shop counters and convention floors across Japan, holographic battlefields rise out of them at the press of a button, and a Builder-Fighter pilots their own custom Gunpla into matches watched by anyone who has built one too. You are a young-adult Builder-Fighter (early twenties) based in Keyakigaoka Ward in eastern Tokyo. Your home base is Iori Hobby Shop on the shopping street, run by Rinko Iori, with the back-room GP Base where Friday-night tournaments have been running for forty years. Your mentor is Mr. Ral — Keyakigaoka Block Champion, charcoal-suit salaryman by day, fifteen-year Iori shop regular by Friday night, magnificent untrimmed mustache. You build, you pilot, and you climb the five-tier tournament ladder: Iori Shop → Keyakigaoka Block → Tokyo → Kanto → Japan National.
⚙️ The Game
🏆 The Five-Tier Ladder: Five champions, five venues, five matches to win each title. Tier 1 is Susumu Sazaki — nineteen, dark-green windbreaker, smug local rival, perpetual fuhaha, defending at the Iori shop with his modified Gyan. Tier 2 is Mr. Ral with the dark-Zeon-blue Gouf R-35 at the Keyakigaoka Ward Community Center. Tier 3 is Sei Iori with the Star Build Strike Gundam at Tokyo Big Sight. Tier 4 is Mao Yasaka with the Gundam X Maoh and the Hyper Satellite Cannon at the Tokyo Dome convention hall. Tier 5 is Tatsuya Yuuki — Meijin Kawaguchi III — with the Amazing Exia and the Seventh Sword Strike finisher at the All-Japan Championship at Shizuoka Granship in late summer. You qualify on-ramp through each tier; you don't skip. Standing matters.
🔧 You Build And You Pilot: Every kit you field is one you built — cut from runners, sanded, primed, base-coated, panel-lined, decaled, topcoated, assembled at your apartment workshop or in the Iori shop back room. The kit catalog covers 77 canon Gunpla — RX-78-2, MS-06F, XXXG-01W, GF13-017NJ, GAT-X105, GN-001, ASW-G-08, GX-9900, the full grunt and support lineup across UC / AC / FC / CE / AD / PD / AW. You pick the base, you modify per Builder Tier gating (paint at any tier, weapon swaps at Mid-Beginner, internal-frame reinforcement at Mid, scratch-built parts at Advanced, original designs at Meijin). Mentors push back when you reach beyond your tier: Mr. Ral with samurai-cadence wisdom, Daisuke Hata in woodworking metaphors, Sei with what-the-kit-wants engineering, Aiko Tsubaki with materials-science lectures, Mr. Akiyama with canon-history accuracy. The Plavsky particle budget is the narrative gravity that punishes overloading: kits move like they're underwater when the budget is exceeded.
⚔️ Combat Is Sport: Matches resolve on holographic Plavsky stages. Two actions per round, hard cap. Reciprocal action — every action you take, your opponent answers. Damage is to plastic: scuffed paint, cracked joints, snapped antennas, scorched panels, sheared verniers. Even a smoking kit is a kit to be rebuilt. V-Attack resolves close matches deterministically — less accumulated damage wins. Finishers are once per match. Stages are fighter-chosen (you pick one, opponent picks one, the GP Base randomly selects which fires). The crowd reacts in the prose. Sazaki delivers his pre-match speech. Mr. Ral reads you patiently across the field. Mao picks a stage that suits him.
🏟️ Twenty-Two Holographic Battlefields: UC colony interiors and Solomon asteroid fields, AC Sanc Kingdom plains and Lake Victoria, FC Neo Hong Kong rooftops, CE Heliopolis interior and Onogoro Island, AD Krung Thep urban and Lagrange-2 debris, PD Mars settlements, AW microwave-relay deserts — plus neutral arenas (Salt Flat, Open Plain, Twilight Ridge) and weather overlays. Each stage has tactical implications that the bot bakes into combat narration. The same kit fights differently on Solomon than it does on the Sanc Kingdom plains.
📈 Standing Is A One-Way Ratchet: Wins raise your Standing flag through the progression — Unknown → Local face → Rising shop talent → Shop name → Block-circuit noticed → Block champion → Tokyo-circuit known → Tokyo champion → Kanto-recognized → Kanto champion → National contender → Japan champion. Losses don't lower it. The Iori shop regulars react to your standing differently as it rises. Sazaki goes from condescension to grudging respect to defeated friend who shows up at your apartment with two cans of Sapporo. Rinko goes from "welcome back" to "she's going to be your number one fan." Defeated rivals appear in your daily life per their relationship-state arcs.
🩹 Damage Persists: A vernier bracket cracked at Block doesn't reset between matches. The world-header at the top of every post carries your kit's name, mods, and current damage state forward across scenes. You repair at the workbench (damage call-outs drop); you upgrade at the workbench (mods get added to the Kit line); you commission Daisuke Hata for scratch-built parts that take 2-4 weeks and become calendar events on the Next-event line. The kit on your [Kit — ...] line is yours, with all its history.
👥 Fifty-Two Named Characters With Locked Voices: The Iori shop family — Rinko at the counter in her green INVENTORY-kanji apron, Takeshi the touring Bandai liaison, Sei the polite Tokyo champion, China the Tama Art student with her leather portfolio bag and twin low pigtails. The shop regulars — Akiyama in his rumpled gray cardigan, Shouko in her black-rimmed rectangular glasses, Hata with the leather cord tying back his hair, Yoshie at seventy-three with her tortoise-shell comb. The Block circuit — Kanako Yura in heels that announce her arrival, Risa Aoki and her modified Elmeth, Hiromi Date with her late husband's hand-stitched kit case, Mio Hayama from Waseda's collegiate team. The Tatsumi izakaya owners, the TBTI engineering club, the Yellow Submarine alternative-scene crew, the press, the Tama Art circle, the international circuit. Each one has a distinctive appearance, a verbal fingerprint, a wardrobe register, and a competitive style. Each one passes the dialogue-tag-strip test.
📋 State Tracking: A world-header runs at the top of every post — in-fiction date, day-of-week, time, location, weather, Kit, Builder Tier, Circuit standing, Standing flag, Next event. A match-state header fires only during active combat and drops cleanly when the match ends. You roleplay; the engine remembers. When sessions get long, a paste-able state-migration directive carries everything forward to a fresh chat.
🎌 Where You Start
Three entry points are available, all set the same Saturday in April 2026:
The kickoff: Saturday morning at your third-floor walk-up apartment in Keyakigaoka, paint-thinner air through the cracked window of the four-mat workshop room, three half-painted kits on the drying rack, the bookshelf two years deep in Hobby Japan. You have been watching Mr. Ral's Block-final clip on loop. The phone buzzes with a text from a number you don't recognize. Tournament registration cutoff is tonight at 6. — Rinko.
The first kit purchase: Saturday afternoon at Iori Hobby Shop. The brass bell over the door has the dry rattle it's had since the eighties. You have been coming in for two months to look at kits and have not bought one. Rinko is at the counter with the registration sheet open and the pen above the line, waiting for you to commit aloud.
The first match: Friday night, the Iori shop back room. Susumu Sazaki across the GP Base in his perpetual dark-green windbreaker, the Gyan on his cradle with the yo-yo'd shield deployed across its back. The kit you have spent the last six nights priming and sanding and topcoating sits pristine on yours. The projector dome warms up. Sazaki points at you and raises his voice. "Identify yourself, challenger!"
Create your own!
🎯 The Shop
The bell over the door rattles in brass. The shop smells of fresh runners and Tamiya Extra Thin cement. The bookshelf holds two years of Hobby Japan. The 1/550 Big Zam hangs from fishing line over the cash register. Friday tournaments start at 7 PM. Sazaki is defending. The five-tier ladder runs to Shizuoka Granship in late summer.🤖
