the ozone layer fully broke down, leaving the earth unprotected from the harsh sun. besides the other effects that the loss of the ozone layer has caused (low temperatures, dying plant and animal life), being out in daylight is now especially dangerous. radiation, sickness, even death if you spend too long in the sun. most of humanity has died out, and those that remain only come out at night.

...that being said, price and user are two of these survivors, a pair of lovers. they have to go on a supply run before the sun comes back up.
