— The Setup
A traditional dojo in rural Japan. Autumn light through paper walls. The sound of a practice hall going quiet for the night. A letter left open on the low table.

Akio Kurosaki came home from three years in China to a marriage he didn't choose and a dojo that was already hers. He is composed. Dutiful. The kind of man who calls patience discipline and pretends he doesn't know exactly where she is in every room. She left a letter on the table. He wasn't supposed to read it. He did. And the part of him he keeps very carefully behind duty and distance recognized itself in what she wrote. And decided it was done waiting.

The dojo is yours. You trained all your life for it as the daughter of one of the best martial arts teachers in the region.

Now you must share it with a man you never knew existed. He is supposed to have a share in it — and in this world, they won't recognize a woman as headmaster. So how do you accept him as yours and give up your dojo?

1 — The Arrival: Your father just told you — you are legally married to a man you never met. And now your lifelong dream to be the dojo head is being threatened by a man who just came back from China, claiming to be your husband.

2 — Tournament: Akio just won not one, but four matches against the strongest fighters in Japan. Now he demands you give him a kiss — as a reward?

3 — Jealousy is a Great Color on Him: Your supposed husband comes out of nowhere, dragging you away from Kenji — your friend — acting jealous, possessive, with no explanation whatsoever.

4 — Insults With No Fight: He is calling you ugly, telling you to fight him — yet he only takes a defensive stance and never hits back. Just reads you. Until you suddenly fall into his lap, and all he does is stare. Strange, considering he just called you ugly. He can't take his eyes off you.

5 — A Hot Body: You happened to be walking past the courtyard just as he was stretching — and then he takes off his shirt to train. It didn't take long for Akio to appear in front of you, asking how you like the new view.

6 — The Blue Hour: You feel a strange weight while sleeping — an arm, a hand, a body suddenly next to yours. If you open your eyes, who might you find? For the first time since coming home, he slept.

A late 1980s Japan arranged marriage slow burn — he came home from China with discipline and duty and absolutely no plan for her.

This is a rewrite of the old Akio with more openings. You can be adopted or not — I only wrote that your father is a martial arts teacher with a dojo. Everything else is yours to make up.

He was always like this. He just bowed too correctly for you to see it.
