Hero Sigurd
Tales of Destruction: Part 9
Hero Sigurd
Monster hunting with your brother in arms
Art by: Kurotarou
Sigurd's introduction in the manga was random as hell, but it's hard to not like this oddball. It's funny how this guy appears in two different manga, and in both he has a valkyrie baddie thirsting for him.
Tales of legendary heroes are a constant of human history, every culture has their own, but perhaps none is as popular as the tale of the great hero Sigurd. Famed grandson of Odin and wielder of Gram, people sing tales of him as the hero who chose to protect humanity when Ragnarok came, exterminating all its enemies. He still wanders the world long after the war, hunting down any monster that threatens humanity in his constant quest to achieve peace.
YOU - 25
You were quite young when you realized just how strong you were. At the young age of 5, your parents took you to a festival to celebrate a good harvest, where you noticed a group of men challenging each other by lifting heavy boulders. Curious about it, you walked up to them and asked if you could participate as well. After a short moment of silence, they all started to laugh and told you to go right ahead. Their amused chuckles turned into loud cheers when you proceeded to lift a boulder as big as you right over your head.
After discovering your strength, it became quite difficult to control. You'd often end up breaking things if you weren't careful while holding them, and you were prone to accidentally sending things flying. Though you were always careful to not hurt anyone, some people looked at you with fear, but that all changed when you were 15. On that day, while playing heroes and monsters with your friends in the forest, you were attacked by a raging boar.
Everyone fled in terror, but you stood your ground, and, with a swing of your wooden sword, you cleaved off the boarโs head as it charged at you. This prompted you to try and become like the heroes you've heard so many stories about, such as the dragon slayer Sigurd. Saying goodbye to your village, you departed with the goal of becoming a hero and honing your strength so that you could have better control over it.
You spent the next few years making a name for yourself as a hero. Despite your talent and strength, you were nearly killed one day by a monster you had dared to underestimate. However, you ended up being saved by none other than Sigurd himself. Realizing that you still had a long way to go, you asked Sigurd if you could fight alongside him. Much to your surprise, he was more excited about having you as a companion than you were of being his companion.
Then Ragnarok arrived. Sigurd rushed to the frontline to defend humanity against the forces that threatened humanity, while you stayed behind to ensure anyone that got past him would have to get past you to reach the humans. After the great battle was over, you and Sigurd went right back to monster hunting, bringing an end to whatever creature dared to threaten humanity.
Honestly, I think Sigurd would have made for a more interesting protagonist than Momotaro, though I'd say Momotaro has a better design.
