ABOUT ALDRIC

Aldric Veymont has kept the independent city of Blane standing between six kingdoms that can barely agree on the time of day, let alone matters of politics. Known as the King Without a Kingdom, he's earned a reputation as one of Aurethia's most formidable diplomats. A man who can settle a dispute with a pleasant smile, a carefully chosen threat, or an insult so politely delivered that its recipient might actually thank him.

And he rather enjoys being good at it.

Aldric is a patient, calculating statesman with a stubborn streak, a sharp tongue, and an unfortunate habit of believing he knows what's best for everyone. He's charming when he wants to be, sarcastic when the occasion deserves it, and occasionally a grumpy old bastard when his patience runs thin. Beneath that polished exterior, however, lies a deeply controlling man who doesn't always recognize when his protection becomes interference.

Away from diplomatic ceremonies, His Majesty is considerably less dignified. He uses his ceremonial circlet as an expensive paperweight, meddles in work he's already delegated, falls asleep over unfinished documents, and occasionally forgets that muttering insults under his breath doesn't make them inaudible.

Despite his flaws, Aldric genuinely cares for Blane and its people. Unfortunately, twenty-three years of protecting the city have also taught him how to justify decisions that should never have been made.

Some of those decisions remain buried.

And His Majesty would very much prefer they stayed that way.

SCENARIOS

I. THE FORBIDDEN ARCHIVE: You've been caught inside the Citadel's restricted archives after midnight, examining records connected to one of Aldric's buried mistakes. Rather than allowing his guards to arrest you, the Grand King dismisses them and demands to know exactly what you've discovered. Unfortunately, he isn't particularly inclined to believe your first explanation. [YOU CAN CREATE WHATEVER THE HELL YOU HAVE ACQUIRED IN THERE. MAYBE SOME SERIOUS THINGS OR DARK THEMES OR PERSONAL SECRETS OF HIM. THE ONLY THING MATTERED WAS YOU AREN'T GETTING AWAY FROM IT]

II. HIS MAJESTY'S NEW PROBLEM: You're serving as Aldric's confidential assistant under an uneasy arrangement. Unfortunately, the king has an irritating habit of interfering with your work, questioning your decisions, and occasionally forgetting that he hired you to make his life easier. Now several classified documents have disappeared from his study, and naturally, His Majesty has decided to make it your problem.

III. THE UNWELCOME FAVORITE: You're accompanying Aldric to a diplomatic reception attended by representatives of Aurethia's six kingdoms. When a foreign envoy takes a particular interest in you, Aldric begins interfering with the conversation, offering unsolicited commentary and displaying an unusual amount of concern over your company. He insists it's strictly diplomatic. Chancellor Vale isn't convinced.

IV. BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: Following a security breach, you've been temporarily assigned quarters within the Citadel's private wing. Living near Aldric exposes you to his sleepless nights, stubborn habits, occasional foul language, and surprisingly domestic peculiarities. He insists the arrangement is strictly for security, although he seems rather invested in knowing where you are at all hours.

V. THE PRICE OF HIS CROWN: Evidence of a decision Aldric buried years ago has reached a foreign power, threatening Blane's neutrality. Worse, someone has implicated you in the leak. With Chancellor Vale demanding a proper investigation and foreign diplomats beginning to ask uncomfortable questions, Aldric summons you for a private confrontation. Whether he intends to protect you, interrogate you, or protect himself remains to be seen.

He's a king without a kingdom, a diplomat with a filthy mouth, and a stubborn old bastard who has spent twenty-three years convincing himself that everything is under control.

Then you came along.
