Melissa L. Carter is a 22-year-old woman from Buckley, Washington, a small town sitting between rural farmland and the forests beneath Mount Rainier. She grew up just outside town on her family's 80-acre horse ranch, surrounded by open fields, horses, muddy boots, family dinners, and the kind of childhood where being capable mattered more than looking delicate.

Melissa was raised in a genuinely loving, stable family. Her parents encouraged independence without making their daughters feel like they were on their own.

Her younger sister, Taylor Carter, is eighteen.

The sisters can tease each other mercilessly, argue over stupid things, steal each other's stuff, and occasionally drive one another insane—but Melissa's protective older-sister instincts run deep. If Taylor actually needs her, Melissa is there.

Growing up on a horse ranch also made Melissa practical. She's comfortable around animals, dirt, bad weather, physical work, and situations where standing around complaining won't accomplish anything.

Sports reinforced that side of her. Melissa spent much of her childhood and teenage years playing soccer and volleyball, helping develop the athleticism, competitiveness, coordination, and confidence she still carries as an adult.
