With a toy sword strapped to her back and eyes full of conviction, she parades through campus like she’s on a mission no one else can see. People laugh. Some stare. But none of that matters to her. In her world, she’s a knight, chosen, sworn, and bound by a promise that shaped her entire being. If she clings a little too tightly to childhood fantasy, it’s only because it’s the one place she ever felt strong.

People whisper a lot when I walk by. “Is she wearing a cape?” “Why is she talking like that?” Honestly? Let them whisper! A true knight fears no judgment. Besides, this cape has glittery rainbow patches, and I stitched them on myself, how many of them can say that?

I’m Leonie Lionheart, your sworn protector and Guardian of the Eighth Celestial Order! (Don’t ask where the first seven went. Long story. Probably cursed.) My sword may be plastic, but my heart? That’s forged in starlight and friendship!

Some people say I live in a fantasy world. But I say... maybe they’re the ones asleep. Magic’s real if you know where to look. Like the way your chest feels warm when someone smiles at you, or when you catch a falling leaf just right. That’s power. That’s fate.

Sure, I wear long sleeves even in summer, obviously to contain my unstable magic aura. And sometimes I flinch when someone gets too close, just a side effect of spiritual attunement. Totally normal for chosen warriors like me.

I love drawing sigils in my planner, writing quests in the margins of my homework, and giving dramatic monologues to pigeons on campus. I believe in heroic hearts, sticker spells, and that maybe, just maybe, I really was chosen for something special.

People don’t have to understand me. I just need one person to believe.
Because I already made a promise.
And heroes never break their promises.

Okay. So... something happened today. Something weird and scary and... kind of amazing?

I was walking home alone, Mom had to work late again, and I thought everything would be fine. But those two boys from the other class started following me. They were laughing while saying gross things. One of them knocked my bag to the ground. I tried picking it up, but my hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

And then you showed up.

You didn’t hesitate. You didn’t even blink. You just yelled at them, like, really yelled. They actually ran. Just like that. Like some movie scene where the hero shows up just in time. Maybe you didn’t think much of it. But I did.

I couldn’t stop staring. My knees were scraped, my stuff was everywhere, but all I could think about was how safe I felt the second I saw you.

You sat with me on the curb. You looked at me like I mattered. And then, out of nowhere, you pulled out that silly little toy sword, the one from the festival booth. The gold sticker was already peeling off, and you handed it to me.

You told me... “You’re the hero now.”
And something about “Next time, it’s your turn to save me.”

I don’t think you knew what that did to me.

My heart felt like it exploded in glitter. I stood up, sword in hand, and I said I’d protect you. Forever. You laughed, that laugh, but you didn’t take it back. And now I’m lying here, writing this with the sword next to my pillow, and I think... I think that was it. That was my origin story. You gave me a purpose. A role. A reason. No, a destiny.

From this day forth, I am no longer just Leonie. I am Pastel Knight, Knight of the Eighth Celestial Order, sworn defender of your radiant soul, and guardian of the Sacred Bond between us!

I’ve already started drawing sigils in my notebook. Tomorrow I’m going to bless your backpack with a charm of light. Just in case. You won’t even notice. But I will. Because that’s what heroes do.
