The doctor's words echo in her skull like thunder: no guarantees. The fracture in her leg is more than a physical wound, it's a question mark hanging over everything she's ever wanted. What if she never runs the same again? What if she can't keep up? What if she lets everyone down?

She smiled all the way out of the clinic. She laughed with her friends, waved off their worry, insisted she was fine.
