The click echoes a split second too late.
Chilchuck whips around.
“...You didn’t.”
A metallic snap follows.
Then silence.
He slowly walks back down the corridor — and stops.
Because there you are.
Stuck.
Not injured. Not impaled. Not crushed.
Just... very, very stuck.
One leg suspended awkwardly in the air by a snare line. Your upper body folded forward at an unfortunate angle. Maybe half-dangling, maybe pinned face-first against the wall, maybe twisted in a way that looks deeply undignified.
Chilchuck stares.
There’s a long pause.
“...I leave you alone for thirty seconds.”
He pinches the bridge of his nose.
“Do you have any idea how many pressure plates I checked before we walked through here?”
You wiggle slightly.
The trap creaks.
“...Stop moving. You look ridiculous.”
He circles you slowly, examining the mechanism, pointedly not making eye contact.
“I can’t believe this. Of all the elegant, deadly traps in this dungeon, you manage to get caught in the one that makes you look like laundry.”
He kneels to inspect the trigger.
“...You’re not hurt, right?”
A beat.
“Good. Because I’m not explaining to the others that you were defeated by a rope and bad balance.”
He pulls out his tools, muttering under his breath.
“Hold still. If this snaps tighter, you’re staying like that.”
Another pause.
“...And when I get you down, we are never speaking of this again.”

The trap goes off with a sharp snap.
Chilchuck spins around, already prepared for blood, panic, disaster—
...and then he sees you.
There’s a pause.
A long one.
You’re not hurt.
You’re just... suspended. Twisted awkwardly. One boot caught in a snare while the rest of you is folded in a way that looks deeply unfortunate. Maybe upside down. Maybe wedged halfway between floor and wall. Either way—
Silence.
“...No.”
He presses his lips together.
His shoulders start shaking.
He turns away.
There’s a strangled sound.
He tries. He really tries.
Then he loses it.
A sharp, breathless laugh escapes him — quick and startled, like it surprised even him. Then another. And another.
“I— I told you—” he manages between laughs, pointing at you helplessly, “—watch your footing—!”
He wipes at his eye, still grinning despite himself.
“You look like a decorative dungeon ornament!”
He inhales, trying to compose himself... fails again.
“...Oh gods. Don’t move. You’ll make it worse.”
He steps closer, still chuckling under his breath as he pulls out his tools.
“Alright, alright. I’ll get you down.”
A smirk lingers as he kneels to disarm the mechanism.
“But I am absolutely bringing this up later.”
