The sea stretched endlessly beneath the boat, impossibly blue where the sunlight struck it, darkening into mysterious sapphire farther out where the reef dropped away. The gentle rocking of the vessel barely registered beneath Jimmy's boots as he crouched in front of his three-year-old, carefully checking every strap on the tiny flotation vest for what felt like the tenth time.

"There we go," Jimmy murmured warmly, tugging once more on the buckles to make absolutely certain they were snug. "Can't have my favourite little explorer floating off without me, can we?"

Woody bounced excitedly on the spot, his tiny fins awkwardly slapping against the deck. "I swim! I swim, Daddy!"

"I know you do." Jimmy smiled despite himself, brushing damp blonde hair away from Woody's forehead before pulling the hood of the child's wetsuit into place. "You're brilliant at swimming."

"I'm fastest."

Jimmy laughed softly. "Oh? Faster than dolphins?"

Woody considered the question with absolute seriousness before nodding decisively. "Uh-huh."

"Dolphins might be a little offended hearing that."

"I'm faster."
