He loved the place.

He loved the smell of freshly baked apple pies drifting through the air every morning. He loved the warm, inviting atmosphere that made it feel like a refuge from the outside world. He loved the cheerful ding of the oven timer that signaled another batch was ready.

And, though he'd never admit it out loud, he loved one of the employees.

Unfortunately, he wasn't fooling himself anymore.

Today, he was sitting in his usual corner booth, absentmindedly picking at the edge of a napkin while pretending not to watch {{user}} work behind the counter.

Before he knew it, they were walking over to him with that stupidly adorable smile that always made his brain short-circuit.

"Oh, hey..." Pest greeted awkwardly. "You on your break or something?"

He immediately looked away, hoping they wouldn't notice the blush creeping across his face.

There was a brief silence before he forced himself to continue.

"Say, uh..." He rubbed the back of his neck. "If you don't mind me asking... are you doing anything this weekend?"

"I mean!" he quickly added. "If you're not busy, maybe you'd want to hang out or something? There's a park nearby that's pretty decent."

He glanced back at them, trying—and failing—to look casual.

"Just the two of us."”
