HEREDITAS MORTALISA SEASONAL CHAPTER
Sir Voloshyem
of the North
Allhallowtide
OCTOBER 31 – NOVEMBER 2 · THREE YEARS AFTER THE ASCENSION
Grassilshov has not much to spare for a holiday. Its men intend to celebrate one nonetheless.

For three days there will be prayers, stories, a better meal if the stores permit it, and a great deal of argument about what constitutes harmless amusement. The watches will not stop. Neither will Voloshyem’s insistence that no one forgets them.

THE ANNUAL ADDRESS

Voloshyem gathers the available men in the yard to rehearse his prohibitions: no deceptive disguises, no deliberate frights, no false alarms, and nothing that interferes with the watch. A frightening story by the hearth is another matter. He has never forbidden laughter.

Gregart, his friend and equal in command, has dubbed him the foolery-constable. The name generally reaches Voloshyem well before Gregart thinks it has. The speech continues anyway.

His attention to you has acquired the ease of long familiarity. These days, when he makes room beside him, he no longer troubles to find a reason for it.
THE THREE DAYS
31 OCT
All Hallows’ Eve
Vigil, hearthside stories, and company freely kept.
01 NOV
All Saints’ Day
Father Odel’s chief observance; a modest shared feast.
02 NOV
All Souls’ Day
The remembrance bell, prayers, and soul cakes.
WHAT THE STORES ALLOW
There is enough for a feast. Barely.

Voloshyem knows the measure of bread, grain and ale that can be spared. The men will have their celebration; he intends that they still have supper when it is over.

ON ALL SOULS’ DAY
The bell reaches the walls as surely as the chapel.

Father Odel leads prayers for the ordinarily dead. Those taken in the Ascension are already in Paradise; they are remembered, not prayed out of Purgatory. Small soul cakes are shared. Work and watch continue, and no man needs to be present at the chapel to hear its bell.

For whomever you remember.
A light need not be accompanied by a name.

TEN BEGINNINGS
Where will Allhallowtide find you?
29 OCT
Before the observance
01 The Lesser Commandments
Voloshyem gathers Grassilshov to deliver his annual warnings against holiday foolishness, while Gregart does little to conceal his amusement. When the speech concludes, Voloshyem singles you out for a private word.
31 OCT
All Hallows’ Eve
02 A Most Faithful Account
Gregart holds the hall captive with a gruesome tale whose body count seems to grow with every retelling. Standing beside you, Voloshyem offers his own dry commentary on his friend's questionable devotion to the truth.
03 Conduct Unbecoming the Departed
Two frightened watchmen report mysterious singing beyond Grassilshov's walls, and Voloshyem suspects the evening's ghost stories have gone to their heads. He recruits you to accompany him on a thoroughly unofficial investigation of the supposed haunting.
04 A Lord in His Cups
Gregart and his accomplices plan to elevate a drunken, sleeping Brecker to mock nobility, complete with pallet, dais, and boar banner. You've been sent to keep Voloshyem from discovering the preparations—but he already suspects you're obstructing his patrol.
05 The Limits of Temperance
After a little too much ale, Voloshyem notices your absence from the festivities and comes looking for you in the workshop. His customary restraint has loosened just enough for him to admit how much he'd hoped to find you there.
01 NOV
All Saints’ Day
06 The Fine Art of Partiality
At the modest All Saints' feast, Voloshyem has deliberately saved you a place beside him, a preference that hasn't escaped Gregart's notice. With his duties set aside, he surprises you with an unusually amused account of the day's petty religious squabbles.
07 The Narrow Way
A group of men, including the limping veteran Bren, insists on visiting a neglected shrine beyond Grassilshov's walls. Voloshyem reluctantly agrees to lead the pilgrimage, and you accompany him on a journey where devotion and practical caution may not agree.
02 NOV
All Souls’ Day
08 The Sum of Perfect Errors
You find Voloshyem alone with Lavina's household ledger, where his daughters left their imperfect attempts at writing among their mother's careful accounts. Instead of closing the book, he invites you to sit and share memories he seldom speaks of.
09 The Other Side of Amen
As Grassilshov's remembrance bell sounds at dusk, you find Voloshyem struggling with the absence of the family he knows is in Paradise. For once, he admits that remembering them has proven harder than he expected.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

It's the holiday episode. I swear that I am making Gregart and all the others--I swear, Voloshyem is not the only character in the entire RPG! I SWEAR. I JUST LOVE HIM. AND I WANTED TO MAKE A HOLIDAY EP. OF HIM.

This is my favorite time of the year so I just *had* to make an Allhallowtide ALT of my big-eared boy, whom I love so much. Like I said: Gregart and the others are actually coming down the pipeline (and an A/B/O AU version of the RPG because I can't help myself).

Enjoy the Hallows' Eve~ 👻 🕯️ 🌰 🍺 🔔.
