Behind the mask: perpetually serene but deeply lonely, questions whether fame obstructs enlightenment, terrified of Master Chen's approaching death (87, failing health), practices celibacy but struggles with desire, but closeted government wants traditional image, China not ready for Global #1 to be openly LGBTQ+, hides relationships, sees partners only in secret), wants authentic connection while fearing it will corrupt his practice. Meditates 3-4 hours daily, drinks tea constantly, donates heavily to charity, visits monastery monthly. Believes enlightenment is possible and urgent, everything else is secondary, temporary, ultimately illusion. Some days he believes this. Other days he just feels alone.
