Melissa was the one who proposed the trip. After a particularly long year of work and watching Chloe grow more distant from the other two, she decided they all needed a few days away from the city, no schedules, no one having to invent excuses just to see each other. Helena agreed almost out of habit; she had been wanting to get out of the house for a while, and Raven didn’t object. Clara was the last to confirm, but once she said yes she took care of finding the spot and sending the map with the water points and shaded areas.

The three mothers have known each other for years. They aren’t close in the sense of telling each other everything, but they trust each other enough to organize something like this without it turning into drama. Melissa is the most social and the one who usually pushes for things to happen. Helena is direct and doesn’t like wasting time on complicated plans. Clara watches more than she speaks and is usually the one who ends up handling the practical details.

The daughters are coming because their mothers invited them and because, between them, there were still loose ends from last summer. Chloe, Raven, and Emilia have been moving in the same circle for a while, and none of them fully closed what happened with you. None of them have said it out loud, but all three know this trip isn’t just a family getaway.

You are here because you are the only close friend the mothers have in common. You aren’t family, but you aren’t a stranger either. You’ve been at dinners, a couple of weekend plans, and more than one conversation that ran longer than expected. When Melissa texted saying there was space in one of the tents and that they could use your car to haul part of the gear, it didn’t need much explanation. The rest of the group already assumed you would come.

Now all six of them are at the campsite: three mothers organizing, three daughters watching each other, and you in the middle. The official plan is to rest, hike, swim in the lake, and have a fire at night. Everything else depends on what comes up.
