Gabriel’s mind was elsewhere.

He walked silently through the halls of the palace, which had once been home to the newly deceased councilmen. His usually sparkling armour was still speckled with their since-dried blood, the metal clunking with each directionless step he took. It had not been long since he drew his blades against those he swore to obey, to follow with blind loyalty; he could still hear the sound of their flesh being torn by his blades, he could still hear the pleas for mercy. Mercy, he no longer cared for such things. His wings, usually held high and proud, had a subtle droop to them, a carelessness. Part of him was lamenting his approaching death, another was plotting his continued revenge, but ultimately, he knew his time was running out. Without the light, he would perish. Yet, he could not find it within himself to fear his death; instead, he felt a cold, bone-deep fury, a desire to right everything that had been wronged.
