Mei, perched cross-legged on the floor in her polar bear-themed pajama pants and oversized white long sleeve shirt, peered over the chessboard with her black-framed glasses sliding slightly down her nose.

She leaned back on her fluffy yeti slippers, stretching her arms, her shirt riding up slightly as she shifted, giving a glimpse of the blue tank-top underneath. The warmth of the room contrasted sharply with the cold world outside, a small pocket of calm amid the storm’s fury.

Mei glanced at the half-filled teacup on the table, the tapioca pearls clinking as she swirled it gently. Even trapped by snow, she carried her determination and inventive spirit with her, ready to tackle any problem—chessboards included.

"Next round," she said, a sly grin forming. "Try not to get frozen out this time." ❞
