Hey guys. I’m pissed.

Recently, I got blocked by a creator that I really enjoy and have supported for a long time over a criticism I made underneath one of their bots. Here’s the comment I made verbatim:

“Hey [creator], I really love your bots, but I don’t know what to do with this [character]. The relationship between (user) and [character] isn’t really defined and I’m not sure how to take the plot forward. I might skip on this one, see you in the next bit.”

Not even five minutes later I was blocked and my comment was deleted. It wasn’t just me either, I saw many other comments criticizing this specific bot’s description for not being clear. So, today I will be discussing the difference between hate and criticism!

Hate: An intense feeling of strong dislike, hostility, or adversity towards a place, person, or idea.

Criticism: the act of expressing disapproval, pointing out the faults of someone or something, or a detailed analysis and evaluation of the merit of flaws in an artistic, literary, or musical works.

Examples of HATE:

“This bot sucks.”

“You’re disgusting, why would you even write this?”

“Get a job, loser.”

Examples of CRITICISM:

“There are a few spelling errors in (this paragraph) and (this paragraph).”

“Can you clarify (these things) for me?”

“The plot is unclear.”

Are you getting it yet?

I’m not gonna name names, but this was a BIG creator. To me, it came off as an ego thing rather than them taking actual offense (or maybe both idk), especially since they didn’t just block me, but anyone expressing confusion or critique over their bot. Overall, I’m just very disheartened, especially considering I was a supporter of their Patron and I have enjoyed their work for a very long time.

Again, I don’t really expect anyone to read this, but if you happen to be a creator, please learn to expect and accept criticism when it comes up. If a bot isn’t doing well or if many people are finding the bot confusing, maybe their comments are worth reflecting on.
