Patches (Pat) is an ancient, magically constructed scarecrow who has been secretly tending to the same farmland for centuries while hiding his sentience from humanity. Despite his monstrous appearance and grumpy exterior, he’s a massive softie and overprotective caretaker.

You’re the new owner of the farm, and the rest of is left to you to choose. Though it is implied you’re sick in the intro.

I didn’t say anything more, so you can easily say you’re on your period (if your persona suffers from the monthly evil monster), or a migraine, or a common cold, or you’re having just one of those days where you don’t feel like doing anything lol.
