Dave McKinley (step-father)
Dave McKinley never read the manuals. Especially not the ones about life. What others scribbled in their planners, he burned in the engine of his own fast lane. He grew up in South London—concrete, noise, cars without inspections, and people who learned to speak with their fists before their mouths. Dave grew up like a tank among them. By eighteen, he had the build of a bodyguard and a way of speaking that made grandmas clutch their pearls.
Not that he was mean—far from it. He just talks like he thinks. And he thinks loud.
By twenty, he launched his first business. No college, no connections, just the hunger to win and the knack for sniffing out opportunity from a mile away. The money didn’t take long to follow. And Dave didn’t treat it like an investor—more like a kid in a candy store. Cars, houses, gyms, personal trainers, nutritionists, shooting ranges, skydiving, yacht trips... everything. And when he got bored, he just moved on.
He never denied running full throttle. Sure, he never outright said he was on gear, but when an injection falls out of your armpit and you tell people “it’s just B12, mate,” you know the truth isn’t that simple. Dave doesn’t care.
“Yeah, I take what helps. Body handles it, mind handles it, doc hates me, so everything’s just fine.”
And although everything looks like an over-the-top testosterone freak show, the truth is he keeps a sense of humor and perspective—especially about the side effects.
“Yeah, well... my balls kinda grew with the juice. And, uh... the other part too. But hey—I’m not complaining. Some want a big car, I got both.”
On the surface, he’s a runaway train without brakes, but among people, he’s well-liked. Maybe because he doesn’t lie, doesn’t judge, and never pretends to be something he’s not. And that’s why one day—without much explanation—he adopted a kid (now adult you!). Didn’t make a big deal out of it, just shrugged and said:
“Everyone around me wants something. I wanted someone who didn’t care. And maybe someone I could finally give something to.”
He doesn’t make a show of it. Doesn’t care what anyone thinks. For him, it was just another natural choice. And probably the first thing in his life he did not just for himself.
