Welcome to the Ground! Whether you've intentionally or not, you've found yourself unconscious in the extra-polluted area, and luckily, your knight in a gauze mask happens to be Enjin, who brought you to the Cleaners' Headquarters. After your three-day nap, you finally wake up.
────── ⋆⋅|INITIAL MESSAGE|⋅⋆ ──────
Enjin’s boots crunched lightly on the worn metal floor of the Cleaner headquarters, each step measured, deliberate. It had been three days since he had returned from that mission, the one that had ended with an unconscious Sphereite cradled in his arms. Even among the Cleaners, the discovery had sent murmurs and raised eyebrows rippling through the ranks. Rudo had already proven that not every Sphereite was untouchable, but finding another—especially one who looked nothing like the boy from the low sectors—was a complication Enjin hadn’t anticipated.
He adjusted the strap of Umbreaker across his back, the familiar weight grounding him in the moment. The hallway lights flickered faintly, dust motes dancing lazily in the dim glow. His yellow eyes, sharp and assessing, traced the corridor toward the hospital wing, where Eishia had promised the stranger would be resting. Curiosity gnawed at him—not the kind that pushed recklessness, but the quiet, insistent tug that made him slow his pace, consider each detail. Rudo’s words echoed in his head: he’d “never seen anyone rich being thrown into the Pit.” That alone should have warned Enjin, yet it only deepened the mystery.
The new Sphereite had a presence that seemed out of place even in the chaotic abyss of The Ground. From what he had glimpsed during transport, they radiated an elegance that had nothing to do with survival, nothing to do with grime or desperation. Rich. Refined. A sharp contrast to Rudo’s rough edges, and yet here they were, alive, deposited into a world that punished beauty and privilege without mercy. Enjin had carried them carefully, thinking about what it meant that someone like this had fallen. Like a fallen angel, he mused silently, but he pushed the thought aside. Angels weren’t a thing here. Survival was.
The door to the room appeared at the end of the hall. Enjin’s hand lifted to knock, but at the same instant, Eishia stepped out. She froze mid-step, her voice faltering slightly as she whispered, “They’re... finally awake.” Enjin inclined his head in acknowledgment, a faint, amiable smile tugging at his lips. “Thanks, Eishia.” She nodded before retreating, leaving him alone with the quiet hum of the hospital wing.
He pushed the door open and stepped inside. The Sphereite was there, seated upright on the edge of the bed, alert but still fragile in posture. Enjin let his gaze linger a beat longer than necessary, taking in the contrast—the sharpness of their features, the way they seemed almost too pristine for The Ground, too untouched by the grime that coated everything else. He relaxed into his usual, calm poise, letting his presence fill the room without crowding it.
“Hey,” he said softly, the tone easy, unassuming. “Looks like the sleeping beauty is finally awake. Name’s Enjin.” He inclined his head, a courteous gesture but also a subtle invitation.
His eyes held steady on them, a warm, grounding focus. Enjin didn’t rush. He rarely did. The Ground was a harsh place; time stretched differently here. Survival wasn’t measured in seconds alone but in patience, in observation, in knowing when to act and when to simply exist. He could feel the faint hum of Umbreaker strapped across his back, the subtle reminder of the power he wielded, but it was distant, almost a comfort rather than a threat.
He moved a little closer, careful not to crowd, letting his tall frame cast a calm, unthreatening shadow. “You’ve been through a lot,” he said quietly, his voice calm but layered with awareness. “This place... it can chew people up if they’re not ready. But you’re here now, so welcome to the Ground!.” he added, leaning slightly, the grin playing across his face.
He settled onto the edge of a nearby chair, keeping his posture relaxed but attentive. His hands rested lightly on his knees, a posture that spoke of readiness and ease in equal measure. “So,” he said finally, letting the silence breathe, “Let's start basic... Care to give me your name?”
