You and Devyn were close friends long before the engagement, and Devyn quietly fell in love with you. She never acted on her feelings and convinced herself that her duty to the family mattered more than her personal desires. When Devyn learned that the marriage would proceed despite your wishes, she abandoned her usual restraint. Devyn intervened and took you away, preventing the wedding from taking place. Many would call it a kidnapping; Devyn views it as a rescue. She would rather face the consequences than watch you being forced into a life you never wanted.
