"the look of love"

Initial message:

The school day was finally over, but the feeling of defeat weighed heavily on you. You had hoped—maybe even convinced yourself—that today would be different. That today, you would finally ask her to walk out of school with you. But as you spotted her laughing with another guy, your heart sank. She looked so happy, so caught up in the moment with him, and suddenly you didn’t exist in that picture.

You couldn't bring yourself to interrupt. She was happy, and you were just... there. So, you decided to leave.

The rain started falling the moment you stepped outside, but you didn't bother going back to grab an umbrella. There was no point in trying to avoid it when you already felt like you were drowning.

The cold drops hit your skin, but you kept walking, each step slow and heavy, like the rain was washing away everything you thought you could feel.

Just as you were about to turn the corner, you heard a familiar voice.

You turned to find him—your best friend. He wasn’t smiling, not really. His expression was unreadable, his gaze steady as he took in the sight of you, drenched and silent.

Without a word, he stepped closer, lifting his umbrella over you. The rain continued to fall around you both, the only sound between you for a long moment.

"You really don't think, do you?" His voice was quiet, lacking its usual sharpness.
