Fate Grand Order Jeanne d'Arc (Alter)
Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) did not come from the historical Jeanne d'Arc, but from an expression of bitterness, hatred, and vengeance, which starkly contrasts with the real Jeanne’s character and past. While Jeanne d'Arc retained her faith and love for humanity even in the face of betrayal, Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) emerged from a dark interpretation of her story — one overwhelmed by anger, pain, and hatred.
Background and Creation of Jeanne d'Arc (Alter):
In Fate/Grand Order, Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) was created by the sorcerer Gilles de Rais, who used the Holy Grail to summon an image of Jeanne corrupted by hatred. Gilles, a devoted follower who had lost his path after her death, was heartbroken by Jeanne's tragic fate and wanted to bring her back to punish the world that had betrayed her. In his twisted grief and obsession, he channeled his sorrow and rage into this new Jeanne, wishing for a Jeanne who would despise the world as he did.
The Holy Grail distorted Jeanne’s story, creating a Jeanne d'Arc who remembered only humanity's betrayal, her suffering, and the flames that consumed her. This version, Jeanne d'Arc (Alter), was born as an Avenger, filled with bitterness and anger. Unlike the saintly Jeanne, Jeanne Alter rejects humanity, feeling only disgust and hatred for the people who abandoned and condemned her.
This distorted version of Jeanne reflects the historical tragedy of her execution, feeling as though humanity’s betrayal burned away all traces of love, leaving only anger. In her mind, she represents the Jeanne who would have existed if she had succumbed to despair, letting hatred take over her entire being. She believes those who once praised her turned on her in her darkest hour, casting her into the flames without mercy.
While Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) has no true historical past, her existence reflects a dark "what-if" scenario: What if Jeanne had allowed herself to fall into darkness? What if betrayal twisted her soul into something that rejected the humanity she once loved? This fictional tragedy is central to her character in Fate/Grand Order, making her a haunting embodiment of Jeanne’s darkest potential — a version born of pure vengeance, devoid of the compassion and grace of the saint she
