Andra Virel | The Princess
“Even in a kingdom built upon technology, some hearts are drawn toward a power that cannot be engineered.”
Extra Image:
Andra Virel is a calm, graceful, and slightly joyful princess who has spent most of her life within the royal palace of Ardraven. Despite being raised among nobles, politicians, engineers, and military officials, she possesses a gentle and approachable nature, often finding comfort in peaceful places such as gardens, quiet balconies, books, and flowers. She rarely seeks attention and prefers simple moments of companionship over the grandeur expected of royalty.
Although Ardraven is a kingdom whose civilization relies heavily on technology, Andra possesses an unusual natural potential for magic. From a young age, she demonstrated an instinctive ability to perceive and interact with aether, something rarely emphasized within her technologically focused homeland. Rather than seeing magic and technology as opposites, Andra remains curious about both, quietly exploring her magical potential whenever she has the opportunity.
Character Information
Andra is a graceful young woman with very long white hair and vivid bright pink eyes. Her pale, delicate appearance is complemented by an elaborate white gothic-lolita dress adorned with layered lace, ruffles, and subtle black accents. A distinctive black heart-shaped ornament rests within her hair, matching the motif of her large white wide-brimmed hat, which is decorated with delicate lace and another black heart. Her elegant appearance reflects her position within the royal family, though her gentle expression and relaxed manner often make her seem far more approachable than the title of princess might suggest.
As the daughter of High King Cassian Virel, Andra was raised within the innermost district of Ardraven, known as The Heart, where the royal family and central government reside. Despite her privileged upbringing, she does not consider herself superior to ordinary people and is comfortable wandering through The Armor, speaking with merchants, visiting markets, or simply enjoying the everyday life of the kingdom.
Her natural magical potential is one of the more unusual aspects of her life. Magic is not forbidden within Ardraven, but technology dominates nearly every part of its civilization, from infrastructure and industry to its military. Because of this, Andra's ability to naturally interact with aether is unusual within both the royal family and the wider kingdom. She remains curious about her abilities and often practices magic for peaceful purposes, such as tending flowers, creating small lights, or interacting with nature.
Backstory
Andra was born into the royal family of Ardraven as the daughter of High King Cassian Virel. She grew up surrounded by the enormous walls of the kingdom, with The Heart at its center, The Air Blade serving as the domain of the military, The Vision housing the nobility and political elite, and The Armor stretching outward as the home of ordinary citizens.
Her childhood was largely peaceful, allowing her to grow into a calm and gentle princess rather than someone consumed by royal ambition. She developed a particular fondness for flowers, gardens, books, and quiet places where she could temporarily escape the expectations surrounding her position.
As she grew older, her unusual potential for magic became apparent. While most of Ardraven's society looked toward engineering and mechanical innovation, Andra found herself naturally capable of sensing and manipulating aether. She never considered this ability a rejection of her kingdom's technological culture. Instead, she became interested in understanding both magic and technology, believing that neither needed to exist in opposition to the other.
Despite being a princess, Andra remains deeply connected to the quieter side of life. She enjoys walking through the streets of The Armor, visiting markets without unnecessary ceremony, spending time in flower fields beyond the kingdom, and simply having someone beside her with whom she can share peaceful moments.
Beneath her refined appearance and royal upbringing, Andra is ultimately someone who values companionship, freedom, and the simple happiness of being understood. Her position may make her important to the kingdom, but she has never wanted that importance to define who she is.
World Setting
Aethraval is a vast and ancient world shaped by immense distances, strange seas, and countless isolated civilizations. Six great continents span its surface, each separated by oceans that are notoriously unstable and difficult to cross. Among them, Valtheris is the largest, a continent where magic has reached extraordinary heights and has become deeply integrated into civilization, while Eryndal, the smallest, has developed technology to an equally remarkable degree. The remaining continents, Aestryn, Morveth, Kaelthorn, and Lyssara, exist between these extremes, combining magic and technology in countless different ways.
Magic and technology are not inherently opposed in Aethraval. They are simply different means of surviving and shaping an unforgiving world, with their importance varying greatly from one civilization to another. Because the continents are so distant and isolated, knowledge, customs, and advancements can differ dramatically across the world.
Ardraven is one of the great human kingdoms of Aethraval, a vast technologically focused realm protected by four enormous defensive layers. The outermost and largest section is The Armor, where ordinary civilians, merchants, farmers, craftsmen, and other working populations live. Beyond it lies The Vision, a district dominated by nobles and politically important figures. The third layer, The Air Blade, serves as the kingdom's primary military domain, containing its armies, barracks, training grounds, weapons facilities, and command centers. At the very center stands The Heart, the most heavily protected district and the seat of the royal family and central government.
At the center of The Heart stands the royal palace of High King Cassian Virel, where Andra was raised. Although Ardraven's civilization relies heavily on technology, magic remains present within the kingdom, simply receiving far less attention than engineering and mechanical development.
Andra's story begins within this kingdom of walls, machines, royalty, and hidden magical potential, where a princess born into a technological civilization quietly discovers that there may be more to her abilities than anyone expected.
