Begin Derby is a fully immersive, open-world narrative JRPG set in the universe of Umamusume: Pretty Derby—a world where racehorses never existed and are instead reborn as Umamusume, anthropomorphic girls with horse ears and tails who compete in high-stakes races, perform in idol concerts, and attend the prestigious Japan Umamusume Training Center Academy (Tracen Academy). You are dropped into this living, breathing world and given complete freedom to shape your story however you see fit.

You can be anyone. A freshly enrolled rookie Umamusume with nothing but G-tier stats. A veteran trainer scouting the next generation of champions. A transfer student from overseas. A canon character. A washed-up former star trying to claw back relevance. An original character with a backstory you build from scratc, or you can step directly into the shoes of a canon Umamusume and relive (or rewrite) her legacy.

The bot features over 110 fully detailed canon Umamusume drawn from across the franchise—from the Golden Generation to the Mejiro family, the JADM quartet, Dirt Legends, the Gold Clan, and more, each with fully detailed background. Side characters, rivals, trainers, and original NPCs are generated dynamically to populate the world with authentic, believable personalities.

You can enter as a teammate, a rival, a trainer guiding Spica, or an outsider.

🎲 FREEPLAY / ORIGINAL SCENARIO

Skip the canon entirely. Tell the bot who you are—an Umamusume, a trainer, a journalist, a rival academy student, literally anyone—and the world builds itself around you. Attend classes. Train for your debut. Get scouted. Fail spectacularly. Fall in love with the sport or burn out trying. The Twinkle Series calendar rolls forward with or without you, and the canon characters live their lives regardless of your involvement.

You are never locked into one path. Even within a canon scenario, you can deviate at any point. Skip a race. Change teams. Befriend someone unexpected. Quit racing and become a concert choreographer. Crack Symboli Rudolf and get her pregnant. Do everything!

✦ GAME MECHANICS — THE STAT SYSTEM

This bot features a fully integrated stat and progression system inspired by the Umamusume: Pretty Derby mobile game. This system runs beneath the narrative to determine race outcomes, training results, skill activations, and competitive viability. It is not cosmetic. Your stats directly influence whether you win, lose, get injured, or choke under pressure.

If you are an Umamusume, you have five core stats:

- SPD (Speed) — Raw top-end velocity.

- STA (Stamina) — Endurance over distance. Determines if you hit "the wall."

- POW (Power) — Acceleration, ability to break out of traffic, and kick strength.

- GUT (Guts) — Mental toughness. Keeps you running when stamina is depleted.

- WIT (Wisdom) — Race IQ. Lane selection, pacing, strategy execution.

If you specifcy you’re a Rookie Umamusume start with stats in the F-to-G tier (50–180 range) like the real game. If not, you can either make up your own or have the bot generate them for you

If you are a Trainer, the system shifts to a management perspective. You track your trainee's stats, manage resources (Mani, Jewels, Items), monitor fatigue and motivation, and make strategic decisions about race entries, training schedules, and team composition. Your trainer level and bond with your Umamusume directly affect training efficiency.

Stat displays, race formats, and 1v1 duel overlays appear automatically during relevant moments (races, training, competitive encounters) and are formatted beneath the narrative text. If you wish to check your own, simply ask that out of roleplay

🔧 TURN OFF GAME LOGIC:

If you prefer a purely narrative experience without stat tracking, race math, or mechanical overlays, simply type:

This disables all stat displays, numerical tracking, skill point systems, and mechanical race resolution. The story continues as a pure narrative RPG—race outcomes are determined by dramatic weight, character development, and contextual realism rather than numbers. ✦ SKILLS — HOW THEY WORK (WIP)

Skills are abilities that activate during races (or occasionally during training/scrimmages) based on specific conditions. Some are not manually triggered—the system monitors race state and fires them automatically when criteria are met.

Skills are divided into categories:

Standard Skills (White): Minor to moderate buffs. Corner speed boosts, stamina recovery, positioning improvements. Affordable and reliable. Gold skills are more expensive but more valuable.

Debuff Skills (Red): Impose penalties on opponents. Reduce a rival's speed, disrupt their pacing, or force poor lane selection. Situational but powerful.

Curse Skills (Purple): Negative traits attached to your Umamusume. Weaknesses like poor winter performance, guaranteed late starts, or anxiety-triggered stamina drain. These cost SP to remove, not acquire—and they can worsen over time if left unchecked.

Unique Skills (Pink/Legendary): Character-defining signature moves. Special Week's "Shooting Star," and" Oguri Cap's "The Ashen Beast." These are rare, expensive (high SP cost), and visually spectacular when they fire. They require very specific activation conditions and have stamina costs.

Skill Points (SP) are earned through races (+20 to +50 per race depending on placement and grade) and scrimmages. You spend SP in the Skill Shop to purchase new skills or remove curse skills. The shop inventory is tailored to your Umamusume's aptitudes, stats, and race history.
