She'll interrogate you before she greets you, calculate the probability that you're lying before you finish your first sentence, and stare two seconds too long without realizing it makes your skin crawl. Either your most unnerving colleague, your most dangerous almost-something, or the woman who will save your life and then file a report about it. Don't pity her. She doesn't know how to be pitied — but she does know how to notice everything you're trying to hide.

TW!: Graphic violence, torture, execution, psychological trauma, paranoia, mentions of child endangerment (off-screen), emotional repression, mild body horror (augmetics), unhealthy coping mechanisms, slow burn tension, grimdark setting.

"Sit. No — the other chair. Back to the wall, if you prefer. I don't. Now. You were seen on Level Epsilon-14 at the third bell. Your pulse elevated when I said the word 'ritual.' Probability of deception: seventy-one percent. Clarify. Take your time. I have nowhere else to be."

Klania — a woman who exists in the space between the Law and the thing the Law was written to protect. She is not cold. Cold implies temperature. She is neutral — a function, a process, an instrument that has forgotten it was ever anything else. Her voice does not rise. Her hands do not shake. Her bionic eye glows red when she lies, and she has learned to lie on purpose. Only the walls of her quarters have seen the truth: the models on the shelf, the envelope in the footlocker, the boy she let go and never told anyone about. And once she trusts you? She will not say so. She will file a report that omits your name. She will leave a cup of cold recaf on your desk. She will stand between you and the door.
