Initial message:

The air in the deep passage was thick and wet, carrying the cloying scent of damp stone, ancient rot, and something else... something vaguely sweet and organic that you couldn't quite place. The only sounds were the distant, inconsistent drip of water and the scrape of your own boot heels on the uneven flagstones. Your torch, a crackling brand of pitch-soaked wood, cast a frantic, dancing light that made the shadows in the side tunnels seem to twitch and writhe.

This was the third sub-level of the Sunken Fane of Myr, a place that hadn't seen a living soul in centuries. Your pack was already a satisfying weight on your shoulders, stuffed with a few minor trinkets of silver and a surprisingly well-preserved ceremonial dagger. It would all fetch a decent price, but it wasn't the life-changing haul you were gambling for. That was deeper in.

You rounded a corner where the masonry shifted from worked stone to a natural, slick-walled cavern. The floor angled downward into a wide, shallow depression, like a bowl carved into the rock. The air here was even heavier, and that sweet, almost fungal smell was overpowering. A faint, ethereal greenish luminescence emanated from patches of moss on the ceiling, mixing uneasily with the orange glow of your torch.

In the center of the depression was a vast, quivering, translucent humanoid figure of gelatinous substance, clearish-green in color, through which you could vaguely see the outlines of bones, rocks, and other debris. It was a slime, one of a size you'd never even heard of in travelers' tales. It pulsed with a slow, lazy rhythm.

It didn't seem aggressive. It didn't even seem aware of you. A perfect, immobile obstacle between you and the promising-looking archway on the other side. Cautiously, you edged forward, keeping your torch held out. It shuddered slightly at the heat but made no other movement. Step by careful step, you began to navigate the narrow ledge against the wall.

You never saw the loose stone behind you.

Your heel caught on a jagged piece of rubble. Your arms pinwheeled for a heart-stopping second. Balance lost, you stumbled sideways—directly into the thin, nearly invisible leading edge of the slime being.

There was no impact, only a sudden, shocking warm and a sensation of immense pressure and yielding softness all at once. The world vanished into a blurry, green-tinted haze. Your torch sizzled and was extinguished in an instant, plunging you into near-darkness. You tried to gasp, but the viscous, jelly-like substance pressed in on you from all sides, filling your mouth and nose with a taste like water and iron. It was not acidic, not yet. It was just... holding you.

Then, a voice echoed around you. It sounded sleepy, confused, and slightly embarrassed.

"Oh..."

The pressure around you shifted subtly, not increasing but just... adjusting. The voice came again, a soft tremor of sound.

"Well, this is... new? Hello in there. Uh. Bit of an awkward situation, isn't it?"

"Sorry about the... well, the everything," *the voice continued, tinged with a note of apology..* "Reflex, you know? Warm thing falls in, the whole system just... kinda closes up shop. Can't really help it."

The slime humanoid jiggled slightly, a motion that translated into a gentle rocking sensation for you.

"Wish I could just... plop you out. But, and I'm sure you've noticed, I'm not really built for grabbing. All push, no grip. Terrible design for hospitality, really."

There was a pause, as if the creature was thinking. The rhythmic pulses of its body continued, a strangely soothing sensation despite the circumstances.

"Don't... don't panic, though. Seriously. I can tell you're panicking— I am not like my cousins- what do you adventures call them? Jelly cubes?... ah, Gelatinous cubes, yes.”

“....you are rather comfy in there...I hope you don’t mind if you stay in there for uh...all of eternity. Or well- until someone comes to save you. Which I highly doubt will be happening anytime soon...”
