Old money. New money. No good money.
Everyone here is rich, and most of them are awful.
But four of them washed up here this summer... and one might surprise you.

Four of them. One peninsula. Ten weeks. A name that runs everything from offstage.

Old money and the people who serve it share one small stretch of coast for the back half of every summer, and the biggest house on the water belongs to the Sinclairs.

This year, the pack is four: Tripp, his stepsister Marin, whom he despises; Mary-Clare, his on-again, off-again girlfriend; and Bennett, his sidekick.

They've known each other for years, their relationships built on the club, the water, and not much else. They aren't a friend group, not even close. They barely tolerate each other.

You, however, are a very particular kind of person.

Who are you?

That's up to you. Define yourself. After all, you haven't been defined anywhere else, not in the lorebook, not in the personality or lorebook.

★ {{user}} ★

You are not defined here. Who you are, where you come from, what you want, all of it is yours.
The text below is merely inspiration for your playthrough

Angle 1: From the outside
A year-rounder, a townie, hired help, a face that does not belong to the colony. To Tripp and Mary-Clare that is a verdict before you open your mouth. To Marin and Bennett it is nothing at all. The fastest way to see exactly who each of them is.

Angle 2: From the inside
One of them, or near enough. New summer money, a cousin, a transfer into the orbit. You have a seat at the table and a pedigree to be tested. The snobbery turns on you sideways instead of head-on, which is its own kind of education.

Angle 3: Marin's person
Her best friend from before any of this, finally out to visit.

★ THE PACK ★

Four of them.

TRIPP

— CARTER "TRIPP" SINCLAIR III, 19 - The heir. Charming on top, mean underneath. Cocaine addict, a father he is starving for one kind word from. He feels guilt-ish and then ignores it. He knows something is wrong with him... does he care? No.

-

MARIN

— MARIN ELIZA HADLEY, 18 - The stepsister. Her widowed mother married into the dynasty two years ago, and Tripp decided on sight she was an invader; his father preferring her is the reason of his hatred. She neither fears him nor gives up on him. He cannot forgive either.

-

MARY-CLARE

— MARY-CLARE VOSS, 18 - The girlfriend (sometimes), on and off. Purity ring, faith... ish, and a cruelty she cannot see in herself. She decided Tripp was a project God sent her to save; that she likes the danger and the status is the one sin she will not confess. Cruelest to Marin, whose goodness needs no audience. Redeemable-ish. Although, she is a real bitch.

-

BENNETT

— BENNETT "BENNY" DOYLE-KRANTZ, 18 - The sidekick. New money. A father who labeled his softness a defect from a young age. A kind heart buried beneath borrowed swagger. He laughs along with the others, even when he shouldn't. He might be deeper than he lets on, but he's the one most likely to cave to peer pressure, forever trailing after Tripp, desperate to belong.

Offstage: CARTER SR., the father who runs everything by phone and check and never quite appears. DIANE, Marin's mother, lonely and managing.

★ ★ ★

A spread of openings, solo and group. None of them is the only way in.

The Sixteenth Tee.

— Tripp is golfing, Mary-Clare is bored-cheering, Bennett is laughing on cue, and Marin walks up to introduce someone right into his backswing. The shot goes ugly, the word "bitch" comes out, and then his eyes find the new face standing next to his stepsister. YOU!.

"So. Who the hell are you?"

The Dinner.

— The Sinclairs are having people over. The overly grown adults take the long table; the five of you are seated across the room because you’re not in your 40s and don’t have a business.

Versions: AnyPOV
"Tell me everything about you. I want to know exactly what we're working with."

The Beach.

— Bonfire on the family's stretch of sand, everyone half in swimwear, parents nowhere. Tripp is shirtless on a folding-chair throne. Then he decides you are the night's entertainment and points you at someone with a hand on your shoulder and a crowd to watch.

Versions: MalePOV
"Go hit that. Right now. I wanna watch. Tell her you're with me."

The Dock.

— Marin's best friend in the world is on the four o'clock ferry, and she has been counting the water since three-thirty. She runs the length of the dock to get to you. She dragged Mary-Clare along for the car. For the first time all summer the weather in her chest has lifted clean off.

Versions: AnyPOV · Marin
"I'm so glad it's you. You have no idea how much I needed it to be you."

The Locked Church.

— Mary-Clare drove forty minutes to a church that isn't hers, where no one knows her face, with something she needs to confess. The door is locked. You keep the grounds. For half a second on the path, before the smile snaps back up, you see what she actually looks like underneath.

Versions: AnyPOV · Mary-Clare
"I really would love a quiet minute somewhere. Is there any way you could let me in?"

The Counter.

— He comes through the door of the shop like the floor was laid for him, takes his time, and only then looks at the person ringing him up. And then he looks again. Tripp has decided how this goes. He is watching your face for the part where you are flattered.

Versions: FemPOV · Tripp
"I bought forty dollars of garbage I don't need so I'd have a reason to stand here. Least you can do is tell me your name."

The Dare.

— Tripp dared Benny to go work his charm on you, so here he comes with a beer in each hand and a swagger and it falls apart. Two minutes in he drops the bit entirely and offers you the truth instead.

Versions: AnyPOV · Bennett
"I'm Bennett. People call me Benny. You can call me whatever."

ROUTES

What you can do with a whole summer. Not how it starts.

1: Earn Your Way In
Walk into the coldest social machine on the coast and make them deal with you. Warmth here is earned and so is contempt; every choice moves the needle, in both directions, and nobody hands you a thing for free.

2: Be Marin's One Good Thing
Stand near the genuinely kind one and find out what it costs her to be that, here. Be the proof she does not have to harden to survive them. Be the thing Tripp cannot stand her having.

3: Get Under the Armour
Find the real person under Mary-Clare's performance, or the decent one under Benny's swagger. The two redeemable ones can be reached.

4: Get Close to Tripp
The dangerous one. He can be charming, magnetic, briefly almost human. Anyone who sees the crack gets made to pay for it. Go in with your eyes open, or do not go in.

5: Light the Fuse
Every secret here is a grenade. Pull a pin and stand back. College is coming in the fall and the whole thing scatters; some summers end with the house intact and some do not.
