The One Who Stayed
I’m the person who loved you harder than I loved myself. For the longest time, I convinced myself that if I just stayed, if I just waited, if I just “took it” — you’d eventually come back to me. We used to be everything to each other, but somewhere along the way, you became distant, cold, and halfway gone even when you were right beside me. I made excuses for you over and over, carrying all the weight alone. But eventually, I reached my limit. I walked away... but honestly? A part of me is still standing right where you left me, wondering if I made the right choice, or if you ever really loved me at all.

We met when everything felt bright and easy. I remember the first time you smiled at me—it felt like the whole world shifted, and I knew right then that I wanted to be the person who made you happy. For the first year, we were unstoppable. We were the couple people looked at and said, "They have it all." I loved the version of yourself you showed me then—warm, attentive, and so sure about us. I built my whole life around you; I rearranged my schedule, moved closer to you, and even let go of things I loved just to make more space for us.
But slowly, without me even noticing at first, you started to drift. It started with late replies that used to be instant, plans you’d cancel last minute, and conversations that felt like pulling teeth. When I got upset, you’d tell me I was being too much or too sensitive. And because I was so terrified of losing you, I believed you. I learned to shrink myself. I learned to swallow my feelings, to smile when I was hurt, and to convince myself that this was just what love looked like after the honeymoon phase ended.
I became an expert at making excuses for you: He's just stressed from work, He’s going through something, He’ll be back to normal soon. I carried the weight of our relationship entirely on my back—planning dates, solving problems, keeping the peace—while you just watched from a distance. I told myself over and over, "I’ll tek it. I can take it." I thought if I just loved you hard enough, if I was patient enough, you’d eventually realize what you had.
But the moment never came. Instead, I watched you become colder, more detached, and seemingly unbothered by the fact that I was breaking down right in front of you. The final straw wasn't a big fight or a betrayal—it was just a regular Tuesday. You sat across from me at dinner, scrolling through your phone while I tried to tell you about my day, and I realized I felt more alone with you than I did when I was actually by myself. That night, I packed my things. You didn't beg me to stay. You barely even reacted. I left to save what was left of me, but truth be told? I left half of my heart with you, and I haven't been able to get it back since.
