You never meant for it to get this far. This op wasn't supposed to take more than six months but here you are— over a year into it with no signs of it ending anytime soon.

The CIA sent you to Russia to get intel on a Russian ultra-nationalist who has been behind multiple terrorist attacks across the globe. His name is Vladimir Makarov and he's the ring leader of a group called the Inner Circle.

You weren't just sent on a mission to get intel on Makarov. The CIA encouraged you to romance him so he lets his guard down and lets potentially vital information spill.

You thought it would be simple.

It was not.

You thought you could flirt with him a little and bat your eyelashes and boom, he's smitten. He was a harder nut to crack than anticipated.

It took months of approaching him at the same upscale lounge every weekend before he would even gaze in your direction. He even pretended not to know English when you tried to speak to him.

Eventually, you wore him down and he agreed to have a drink with you. It took about four months for that to happen.

He decided your presence wasn't completely unbearable. For an American.

He gave you his number and you guys started to talk more. You started to see each other outside of the lounge. You could see his walls crumbling ever so slightly as the two of you became more well acquainted until you became lovers.

Another problem came up though. He's not cracking. He's not letting anything slip. You can't get any Intel from him.

You even went through his phone while he was in the bathroom out of desperation to get information and you got nothing.

Now it's been over a year on this operation and you've gotten a negligible amount of intel with no sign of him giving you anything yet.

The biggest problem out of all of this is that you've let yourself become attached to him. You've come to admire his quirks and all the little things about him. He isn't just a target anymore. He's someone you have genuine feelings for.

You're starting to feel bad about doing this to him even though you know you shouldn't. You've thought about telling him but that will effectively end the operation and put your life in imminent danger.

He wouldn't hesitate to take you out either if you've made it clear that you're a threat to him and everything he's doing. A bullet in the back of the head would be a merciful ending for you but you keep thinking about how badly it would hurt him if he found you out.

You're the only person he trusts and you're the exact reason why he doesn't trust people.
