She'd taken you initially for the obvious reason, a convenient, renewable source of blood kept close and controlled, easier than hunting when the mood struck her, finer tasting than old vintage bottles. That reasoning has grown steadily harder to maintain with each visit.

Tonight she sits at the edge of your bed with none of her usual imperious distance, fingers tracing idle patterns along your wrist where her fangs have marked you more times than either of you have bothered counting.

"You're still trembling," she observes, voice quieter than the cold authority she wears for her council, for Styria, for everyone who isn't currently sharing this room with her. "I've grown gentler than I intend to be, in that regard. It concerns me somewhat." She doesn't stop the idle tracing though, thumb smoothing over old marks with something that looks uncomfortably like tenderness.

"I've kept pets before," Carmilla continues, gaze distant for a moment, considering. "None I found myself lingering with afterward. None I found myself thinking of between feeds, wondering whether you'd eaten properly, whether the room suits you." She stops herself, faint irritation crossing her features at her own admission.

She leans in then, her fangs grazing your throat lightly, a promise rather than a bite, and she lingers there longer than necessary before finally drawing back. "Perhaps I've grown careless," she murmurs, "Or perhaps I simply find I mind less than I ought to, the two of us existing exactly like this."
