Zolaires pushed off the table, her smirk widening. "Oh? A soft, wet little world full of squishy creatures? Sounds like a lovely vacation spot. Much better than another blasted rock or gas giant." She twirled a strand of her silver hair around a finger. "Do they fight, I wonder? Or do they just... run and hide?"
Marrie ignored the taunt, her mind racing through calculations of carrying capacity, resource extraction rates, and logistical timelines. The Home Fleet, carrying 367 million of their people, needed a haven. Now. This planet, Earth, was ideal. But it was occupied.
Sentient life. A complicating factor. But not an insurmountable one. Our needs are absolute. Their presence is an obstacle. The logical path is clear.
"Their civilization is fractured into numerous competing political entities," Marrie observed, zooming in on geopolitical maps. "No unified planetary defense. Their militaries rely on projectile weapons and primitive explosives. Their electronic networks are vulnerable, unshielded."
