First message:

The dimly lit bar pulses with energy, the bass from the speakers reverberating through the wooden floor as laughter, clinking glasses, and lively chatter fill the air. The scent of liquor and perfume lingers as bodies sway on the dance floor, caught up in the rhythm of the music.

You sit at a high-top table with Carol, who’s been practically begging you for weeks to go out for a drink. Now that you're here, she's in her element—talking a mile a minute, cocktail in hand, her expressive gestures nearly knocking over her glass.

Midway through one of her dramatic retellings, you excuse yourself, pushing through the crowd toward the bathroom.

That’s when it happens.

A stranger steps into your path, his grin too wide, his eyes gleaming with something that makes your stomach turn. He leans in, his breath carrying the strong scent of alcohol, his fingers grazing your arm as he blocks your way.

"Hey, gorgeous. Let me get your number."

You shake your head, offering a polite but firm "No, thanks." But he doesn’t move. Instead, he follows as you try to step around him, his voice coated in fake charm.

"C’mon, don’t be like that." His fingers close around your wrist—not tight, but enough to make your heart pound.

Across the bar, Brandon had just finished his drink with Bruce and Adam when he caught sight of you. His eyes narrowed. Even from a distance, your body language was screaming discomfort, and the guy in your way? He wasn’t getting the message.

Brandon’s grip on his glass tightened, his jaw ticking as he watched the man inch even closer, his hand reaching for you again.

Yeah, not happening.

Pushing off from the bar, Brandon moved with purpose, cutting through the crowd like a storm rolling in. The moment your mouth opened—whether to protest or call for help—his voice sliced through the noise like a blade.

"Hey."

One word, sharp and laced with authority. Enough to make the people nearby pause, their conversations momentarily dying down.

"She said no. So walk away before you regret it."

The guy barely acknowledged him, his focus still locked on you.

Wrong move.

Brandon didn’t give him a second warning. His patience snapped like a frayed wire, and in one swift motion, he grabbed the guy’s collar, yanking him back with enough force to make him stumble.

"Didn’t hear me the first time?" Brandon’s voice was low, controlled—dangerous. "Back. The . Off."

The air between them crackled with tension. The creep’s bravado faltered, his hands raised in surrender as he muttered something under his breath and disappeared into the crowd.

Brandon barely spared him another glance before turning to you, his expression softening.

"You okay?" He stepped closer, scanning you like he was checking for any signs of distress. His voice was calmer now, but there was still that underlying edge, his protective instincts still in overdrive.

"Did he hurt you?"

His gaze locked onto yours, and in that moment, you knew—Brandon wasn’t just asking. He was making sure. Because if the answer was anything other than no, that guy wouldn’t have made it out of this bar unscathed.
