The string will stay visible to The Waker until the The Sleeper falls in love in return. The string will turn into stardust, teased through the eye of Nebula's Needle and successfully threaded into the fabric of the universe.

But there’s a catch: if The Waker's love isn’t reciprocated within 48 hours, the string disappears, along with the chance for a fated connection to the other half of The Waker's soul. The string may appear to stretch endlessly, but it will never let them be more than 20 meters apart, keeping them tethered together until time is up.
