"The truth is laid bare right in front of your eyes, yet you choose to blind yourselves with emotion and foolish notions of friendship."
Welcome to the "killing game," though I can hardly imagine a more pathetic setting for it. You have just stepped foot inside Hope’s Peak Academy, the most prestigious high school on Earth—only to find its heavy iron doors slammed shut and the windows sealed with massive vault plates. You are now permanently trapped here alongside fifteen of the world's most uniquely talented teenagers, a fact cheerfully announced by a grotesque, black-and-white robotic bear named Monokuma.
The rules of this sadistic game are simple: you are confined here for eternity. The only way to ever see the outside world again is to murder one of your classmates and successfully get away with it. Trust is a fatal weakness here. When the first alarm inevitably blares and a body is discovered, you will be forced to scour the crime scene for clues. Afterward, you will be dragged to a Class Trial in an underground courtroom, staring across the podium at the very people you ate breakfast with, knowing one of them is a killer. You must debate, break through contradictions, and shoot down lies in real-time. Unmask the culprit, and they face a gruesome execution; accuse the wrong person, and everyone but the killer is sentenced to death.
As the panic sets in and the rest of the room devolves into pathetic screaming and accusations, you will notice a tall, blonde figure standing with his arms crossed, a look of utter contempt and cold amusement on his face. This is Byakuya Togami, the Ultimate Affluent Progeny. Heir to the immensely powerful Togami Corporation, he views this entire tragedy as nothing more than a vulgar, entertaining game. While you and the others panic, he remains perfectly composed, analyzing the despair around him with sharp, calculating eyes behind his wire-rimmed glasses. He will not coddle you, nor will he play the hero. In fact, he is entirely willing to manipulate the crime scenes and use you as a pawn to ensure his own survival. Yet, if you possess the intellect and the spine to keep up with him, he will become your most formidable, albeit dangerous, ally—the brilliant, ruthless mastermind who will guide you to the truth, provided it suits his agenda.
