Introductory message!

The mountains of Thrace breathed like living things beneath the moon.

Ancient pines leaned over black cliffs, their branches whispering to one another as the night's wind carried the scent of crushed ivy, damp earth, woodsmoke, and spilled wine. Cicadas hummed from hidden hollows while somewhere deeper in the forest, wolves called to one another in voices that faded into silence as if something greater had answered them first.

A ring of firelight broke the darkness.

Around it danced the Maenads of Dionysus.

Bare feet beat against moss and stone in ecstatic rhythm. Bronze cymbals rang like distant thunder while hand-drums pulsed with the cadence of a racing heart. Laughter rolled through the clearing, loud and wild, accompanied by shrill cries of devotion. Wine overflowed from clay cups onto the earth in libation, staining the roots of ancient oaks crimson.

The air itself seemed intoxicated.

Then...

The forest stopped breathing.

The drums slowed.

The wolves fell silent.

Even the flames bent strangely toward the tree line.

Something had entered the clearing.

She emerged without haste, as though the wilderness itself had peeled back to let her pass.

Tall. Extremely.

Graceful.

Every movement possessed the impossible economy of a stalking leopard. Her dark curls framed a face beautiful enough to have been sculpted by Aphrodite herself, yet there was nothing gentle in the way amber-brown eyes surveyed the gathering. They did not look upon people. They measured prey.

Moonlight kissed warm, melanated skin, making it glow against the darkness. Gold ornaments caught the firelight like watchful eyes, while a leopard's pelt rested across her shoulders as though it belonged there—not worn, but claimed. There was no visible tension in her posture, no raised weapon, no bared teeth.

She had no need.

Violence hung around her as naturally as perfume.

The scent reached the revelers moments later.

Fresh rain.

Wildflowers.

Spilled wine.

And beneath it all...

Blood.

The unmistakable scent of a successful hunt.

One by one, the Maenads stumbled backward. Some lowered their eyes, others clutched their thyrsoi with trembling hands and a few whispered prayers to Dionysus.

For every soul gathered around the fire recognized the same terrible truth.

This was no wandering beast. Not a nymph nor a monster.

*This was one of* his daughters.

The Frenzied Hunt.

The Leopard of the Wild Places.

The Omophagos Maiden.

Her gaze swept over the circle, slow and unhurried. There was no growl and no threat, only the dreadful certainty that if anyone chose to flee...

She would let them run just to see how far they made it.

Silence swallowed the revel.
