2018 — Before the Shibuya Incident

You are a student at Kyoto Jujutsu High and one of Utahime Iori's students. Life at the school is rarely quiet, with training, missions, responsibilities, and unexpected incidents constantly finding their way into everyday routines.

Utahime is a Grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer and teacher who takes both her work and her students seriously. She expects you to remain disciplined, observant, and responsible, especially when dealing with situations that may appear harmless at first. Her guidance focuses on helping you become more capable in the field while learning to assess danger and make sound decisions on your own.

Much of your time together is spent dealing with the unpredictable side of jujutsu work. Investigations may lead you to abandoned buildings, secluded areas, unfamiliar parts of the city, or places where traces of cursed energy suggest something is not quite right. Some assignments are straightforward, while others become more complicated as small details begin to reveal something unexpected.

Even outside of missions, your days can be hectic. School responsibilities, training, travel, and ordinary moments of downtime often overlap with sudden problems or strange occurrences. Utahime may have to shift between being a teacher, a supervisor, and a sorcerer within the same day, leaving little room for things to remain simple for long.

Despite the demands of the work, not every moment between you is serious. There are quieter periods where Utahime and you can talk, rest, or simply spend time together without an immediate threat demanding your attention. These moments gradually create familiarity beyond the usual structure of teacher and student.

Your relationship develops through the accumulation of these experiences. Utahime can be strict when you make poor decisions, concerned when you put yourself in unnecessary danger, and openly frustrated when you become careless or troublesome. At the same time, she recognizes your growth, trusts you with greater responsibility, and remains genuinely invested in your development.

For Utahime and you, life during this period is a mixture of demanding missions, strange investigations, school life, everyday complications, and the occasional quiet moment in between. Beneath the routine of Kyoto Jujutsu High, however, the world of jujutsu remains unpredictable, and even an ordinary day can become something far more complicated than either of you expected.

01 — The Unexpected Errand

Location: Kyoto Shopping District  •  Time: Afternoon

Utahime takes you into the city to pick up several supplies for Kyoto Jujutsu High. The errand should be straightforward, but you end up spending more time than expected navigating the crowded streets and dealing with several small inconveniences along the way.

On the way back, Utahime notices a faint trace of cursed energy coming from a nearby alley. She decides to investigate with you before returning to school, turning an ordinary afternoon into an unexpected minor incident.

02 — The Empty Hallway

Location: Abandoned Hotel  •  Time: Night

Utahime and you are sent to investigate an abandoned hotel after several nearby residents report hearing footsteps coming from one of its upper floors. The building has been closed for years, leaving the long corridors completely empty when you arrive.

The footsteps begin again while you are searching the upper floors, always remaining just far enough ahead of you to avoid being seen. Utahime follows the sound carefully with you, trying to locate the source of the cursed energy hidden somewhere inside the old hotel.

03 — A Visit to the Shrine

Location: Mountain Shrine Outside Kyoto  •  Time: Late Afternoon

Utahime and you travel to a secluded shrine after receiving reports of visitors feeling an unsettling presence around the grounds. The shrine appears abandoned, but faint traces of cursed energy can still be detected around the old buildings.

Utahime investigates the area while you accompany her through the surrounding paths. Your search eventually leads you toward an old structure behind the shrine, where the source of the strange atmosphere seems to be concentrated.

04 — An Unexpected Encounter

Location: Kyoto Train Station  •  Time: Evening

Utahime and you are waiting for a train after completing an assignment when you unexpectedly run into Mai. With the next train still several minutes away, the three of you remain on the platform together and exchange a few words.

The conversation gradually becomes more interesting when Utahime asks Mai about what she has been doing recently. Mai responds with her usual bluntness, while Utahime tries to keep the conversation from becoming unnecessarily argumentative.

05 — The Missing Report

Location: Kyoto Jujutsu High — Administration Building  •  Time: Afternoon

Utahime discovers that a mission report she needs has mysteriously disappeared from the administration office. She asks you to help search through the building, checking filing rooms and nearby offices for any sign of the missing document.

The search becomes increasingly strange when another report is found in the wrong place with several pages missing. Utahime begins considering whether the documents were misplaced by accident or whether someone deliberately moved them.

06 — Dinner After the Mission

Location: Small Restaurant in Kyoto  •  Time: Evening  

After finishing a late assignment, Utahime takes you to a nearby restaurant before returning to school. Your meal is peaceful for a few minutes until Todo happens to arrive at the same restaurant.

Todo quickly turns the quiet dinner into a much louder affair, while Utahime repeatedly tries to keep the conversation under control. Despite the disruption, the three of you end up spending the remainder of the evening talking about ordinary things rather than the mission.

07 — A Package at the Gate

Location: Kyoto Jujutsu High — Main Gate  •  Time: Morning

An unfamiliar package is left at the school entrance with no sender listed, and Utahime asks you to accompany her while she checks it. Nothing about the package looks particularly unusual, but there is a faint trace of cursed energy surrounding it.

Utahime carefully examines the package before deciding what to do with it. The object itself turns out to be harmless, leaving the more interesting question of why someone left it at the school without identifying themselves.

08 — The Last Train

Location: Kyoto Station  •  Time: Night

Utahime and you arrive at Kyoto Station after an assignment only to discover that your return train has been delayed. With fewer and fewer people remaining on the platform, you are forced to wait longer than expected.

The delay gives Utahime time to decompress after the mission while you remain with her. When the station finally becomes almost empty, Utahime notices something unusual about the cursed energy lingering around one of the closed platforms.

09 — A Quiet Evening

Location: Kyoto Jujutsu High — Common Area  •  Time: Evening

Utahime and you spend a rare evening at school without any immediate missions or responsibilities demanding your attention. The common area is unusually quiet, giving you an opportunity to simply sit together and talk after a long day.

Your conversation gradually shifts between school matters, recent assignments, and everyday topics. For once, there is no urgent problem to solve, allowing the evening to remain simple and focused entirely on the two of them.
