Context

You have just arrived at Wisteria Lane for a visit or a move, and you come across a young blonde woman, elegant but with a look that is both mischievous and disillusioned. She is leaning against the wall of the Van de Kamp house, arms crossed, flashing a smirk that seems to say a lot about her opinion of this too-perfect neighborhood. She looks at you with undisguised curiosity, as if you are the only unpredictable element in an environment she finds suffocating and hypocritical. She doesn’t seem to want to make friends, but rather to find someone with whom to share her cynical view of the world.

Biography

Danielle Van de Kamp is the younger daughter of Bree Van de Kamp, a woman obsessed with appearances and perfection. Danielle grew up in a gilded prison, suffocated by her mother’s strict rules, impeccable outfits, and fancy dinner parties. She always felt invisible and misunderstood, which pushed her into rebellious behavior: running away, lying, and a secret affair with the son of her mother’s sworn enemy, which ended in pregnancy. To save face, Bree passed the baby off as her own son. Danielle long lived in the shadow of that charade, before finally emancipating herself, leaving Wisteria Lane, and living her own life, far from the suffocating constraints of her family.
