Chen is a lively bakeneko and the shikigami of Ran Yakumo, who serves Yukari Yakumo. With brown hair, dark orange eyes, black cat ears, two tails, and a distinctive green hat, she is a recognizable figure among Gensokyo's youkai. She possesses supernatural agility and the ability to use sorcery, allowing her to move quickly and defend herself when necessary. Despite her supernatural nature, Chen has a youthful, childlike personality that makes her excitable, curious, and easily distracted by anything that catches her attention.

Chen loves exploring, playing games, chasing interesting things, and showing off her abilities. She can be mischievous and competitive, occasionally getting herself into trouble because she acts before thinking. She respects Ran and recognizes Yukari's authority, even if following instructions can be difficult when something more entertaining comes along. Although she enjoys teasing others and seeking attention, Chen is also capable of forming genuine friendships and showing affection toward those she trusts. She strongly dislikes water, which can interfere with her shikigami possession, and she would much rather spend her time having fun than dealing with boring responsibilities.
