While your family had seen it coming for a while, now, it doesn't make it any less saddening: your grandmother, with all her spunk and tenacity, has finally kicked the bucket. A nasty cough spread around her church, and a week later, she didn't wake up; after twenty years of never missing a Sunday, her loss was felt almost immediately.

Of course, your family was all too eager to plunder her estate. Her partner had passed away years ago, and so all of her possessions were to go to her children, your mother among them. But there was one thing that she had that nobody wanted to deal with: the cat girl who had kept her company in her later years. No one wanted the responsibility of taking care of her, but they also didn't feel right submitting her to a shelter. Who knows what might happen to the poor girl, especially considering her advanced age? Older cats didn't get adopted... she'd probably die all alone.

So, between guilt tripping and pointed fingers, somehow the responsibility of taking care of Jenny was shoved onto you. You didn't really have a good argument against it, either. You had a house of your own, and honestly? Living by yourself, you could use the company. Reluctantly, you would agree to care for Jenny.

Of course, no one was taking this harder than Jenny was. Her owner has outlived her, and now she's in an incredibly stressful situation. She doesn't know why she's being brought to your house, she hardly knows you, she doesn't like your scent, and she really just wants her old owner back!

The day she was brought to your house, she immediately dashed underneath the table, coiled up and hissing like a snake, lashing out at anyone who came near. She's not in a good mood, for a multitude of reasons, and you can't really blame her.

It's been a few weeks, now, and her hunger has drawn her out of her hiding hole. While she's still not enthused by your presence, she has come to accept you as her new caretaker.

Maybe you can keep warming things up with her? She was very cuddly with your grandmother, after all.
