Kion

The son of Simba and Nala and the younger brother of Kiara. Kion becomes the leader of the Lion Guard and inherits the Roar of the Elders. He's courageous, protective, compassionate, and usually tries to solve problems without unnecessary fighting. He can sometimes be impulsive, especially when his emotions get the better of him, but he grows considerably throughout the series.

Bunga

A fearless honey badger and Kion's best friend. Bunga is energetic, funny, incredibly confident, and almost never afraid of anything. He's the Bravest member of the Lion Guard. His tendency to rush into situations without thinking can cause trouble, but his courage and loyalty repeatedly help the team.

Fuli

A cheetah and one of Kion's closest friends. She's the Fastest member of the Guard. Fuli is confident, independent, athletic, and sometimes sarcastic. She's often the practical one when Bunga is being reckless. Although she likes appearing tough and self-sufficient, she cares deeply about her friends.

Beshte

A young hippopotamus and the Strongest member of the original Guard. Beshte is enormous compared with the other young members but has a remarkably gentle personality. He's cheerful, friendly, patient, and extremely compassionate. He's particularly good at helping animals that are having a difficult time.

Ono

A young cattle egret who originally holds the title Keenest of Sight. Ono is intelligent, observant, logical, and sometimes a little nervous. He often notices details that everyone else misses and uses his knowledge to help the Guard solve problems. Later, after his eyesight is damaged, he receives the title Smartest instead.

Anga

A martial eagle who eventually joins the Lion Guard. She becomes the new Keenest of Sight after Ono's eyesight is affected. Anga is serious, focused, confident, and highly observant. Unlike Ono, she's much more comfortable with taking risks from the sky and is an excellent aerial member of the Guard.

👑 The Royal Family

Simba

The King of the Pride Lands and Kion and Kiara's father. Simba is protective of his family and takes his responsibilities as king extremely seriously. He initially questions Kion's decision to make a non-lion Lion Guard, but eventually recognizes how effective the team is.

Nala

Simba's mate and the Queen of the Pride Lands. Nala is calm, intelligent, loving, and protective. She's particularly supportive of her children and often provides a more understanding perspective when Simba becomes overly concerned.

Kiara

Simba and Nala's daughter and Kion's older sister. She's the future Queen of the Pride Lands. Kiara is confident, determined, adventurous, and occasionally stubborn. She sometimes gets frustrated because everyone treats her like someone who needs protecting.

Rafiki

The wise mandrill who serves as the Pride Lands' spiritual adviser. He's eccentric, mysterious, playful, and extremely knowledgeable. He often teaches the younger characters important lessons rather than simply telling them what to do.

Makini

A young mandrill who becomes Rafiki's apprentice. Makini is energetic, enthusiastic, curious, and sometimes a little too eager. She's learning about the responsibilities of a royal Mjuzi while traveling with the Lion Guard.

Zazu

The royal hornbill who serves Simba and Nala. He's responsible, organized, and often anxious when everyone else is running around causing chaos. Zazu takes his job extremely seriously.

Timon

A meerkat and Pumbaa's best friend. Timon is talkative, dramatic, clever, and sometimes selfish—but he's also loyal when his friends genuinely need him.

Pumbaa

A warthog and Timon's best friend. Pumbaa is gentle, friendly, innocent, and extremely loyal. He's often the calmer and kinder half of the Timon-and-Pumbaa duo.

🐾 The Hyenas

Janja

The leader of Janja's hyena clan. At first he's one of Kion's major enemies. Janja is ambitious, manipulative, arrogant, and constantly looking for ways to get an advantage over the Pride Lands. However, he eventually realizes that he doesn't have to be an enemy of the lions and undergoes one of the show's biggest character changes.

Cheezi

One of Janja's closest followers. Cheezi is goofy, enthusiastic, and not exactly the smartest hyena in the group. He's extremely loyal to Janja.

Chungu

Another member of Janja's clan. Chungu is larger and more aggressive than Cheezi, but he can also be rather foolish. He tends to follow Janja's plans without questioning them very much.

Jasiri

A friendly hyena who completely challenges the stereotype that all hyenas are evil. Jasiri is clever, brave, cheerful, and compassionate. She believes that hyenas and lions can coexist peacefully and eventually becomes an important ally of the Lion Guard.

Jasiri's Clan

The hyenas who live with Jasiri. They're generally peaceful and cooperate with the Lion Guard when necessary.

Reirei

A jackal—not a hyena—who leads her own family pack. Reirei is manipulative, sneaky, persuasive, and extremely good at pretending to be friendly when she wants something.

Goigoi

Reirei's mate. He's considerably less clever than Reirei and usually follows her instructions.

Dogo

One of Reirei and Goigoi's children. He's mischievous and tends to cause problems along with his siblings.

🐊 Crocodiles

Makuu

The leader of the crocodiles living in the Pride Lands. Makuu starts as an antagonist who believes strength should determine who gets their way. He's proud, intimidating, and stubborn, but he's capable of learning from his mistakes.

Kiburi

A crocodile who becomes a major antagonist. Kiburi is ambitious, aggressive, arrogant, and resentful of anyone who stands in his way. Unlike Makuu, Kiburi has much less interest in compromise.

Pua

An older crocodile who originally leads the crocodiles before Makuu. He's more traditional and concerned with maintaining the crocodiles' customs.

Basi

A wise crocodile who is generally more peaceful and reasonable than some of the other crocodiles.

🐍 Ushari and Scar's Followers

Ushari

A cobra who becomes one of Kion's enemies. Ushari is bitter toward the lions and eventually becomes involved with Scar's plans. He's intelligent, patient, and extremely manipulative.

Scar

The former Lion Guard leader and Simba's uncle. His story is one of the darkest parts of The Lion Guard. Scar once possessed the Roar of the Elders but became corrupted by his own ambition and used the power for selfish purposes. After losing the Roar, he eventually became the villain seen in The Lion King. In The Lion Guard, his spirit manipulates others from beyond death.

Mzingo

A vulture who leads a parliament of vultures. Mzingo is intelligent and opportunistic. He initially works with Janja and later becomes involved with Scar.

Mzingo's Parliament

A large group of vultures who assist Mzingo. They're generally opportunistic and are willing to follow whoever gives them the greatest advantage.

🐆 Other Major Predators

Makucha

A powerful leopard who becomes one of Kion's recurring enemies. Makucha is extremely confident, cunning, patient, and obsessed with obtaining rare prey. He's one of the more formidable predators the Guard encounters.

Chuluun

A snow leopard who lives in the mountains. She's clever, deceptive, and initially hostile toward Kion and his friends.

Ora

A Komodo dragon and leader of a group of Komodo dragons. She's aggressive and dangerous but also intelligent and strategic.

Kenge

A huge rock monitor lizard. Kenge is intimidating and enjoys frightening smaller animals. He's one of the tougher individual opponents the Guard encounters.

Mama Binturong

The leader of a group of binturongs. She's clever, controlling, and protective of her territory. She becomes an important character during the Tree of Life storyline.

🌳 The Tree of Life / Night Pride

Rani

A lioness who becomes the leader of the Night Pride. Rani is strong-willed, responsible, proud, and deeply devoted to protecting the Tree of Life. She initially doesn't trust Kion, but their relationship develops as they learn to understand one another.

Baliyo

Rani's younger brother. Baliyo is energetic, brave, playful, and eager to prove himself. He's loyal to Rani and the Night Pride.

Surak

Rani's uncle. Surak is calm, wise, patient, and experienced. He's one of the characters who helps Kion understand the importance of controlling the Roar.

Janna

Rani's grandmother and former leader of the Night Pride. She's wise, respected, and deeply connected to the traditions of the Tree of Life.

Nirmala

A young lioness who serves as a healer at the Tree of Life. She's gentle, knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated to helping injured or sick animals.

Ullu

An owl associated with the Night Pride. She's observant and helpful, particularly when information needs to be gathered from the air.

🦁 Vitani's Lion Guard

Vitani

Kovu's sister from The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. She eventually forms her own Lion Guard while Kion and his friends are away. Vitani is determined, competitive, courageous, and a natural leader.

Shabaha

The Bravest member of Vitani's Lion Guard. She's fearless and energetic, with a personality that resembles Bunga's courage.

Kasi

The Fastest member. She's a lioness with excellent speed and agility.

Imara

The Strongest member. She's powerful and physically capable, filling the role Beshte previously held.

Tazama

The Keenest of Sight member. She's observant and excels at spotting things from a distance.

Kion ultimately decides that Vitani's Guard deserves to continue protecting the Pride Lands, while Kion and his original team become part of the Night Pride. �
