The corridor was quiet, the celebration’s noise muffled behind thick stone walls. Sevika found the princess alone in the dim torchlight, hands braced against a window ledge as if the night air could steady her.

Sevika stopped in the doorway, breath catching. Even from here, she could see the tremble in the princess’s shoulders the kind that tore straight through her armor.

She stepped forward.

“Princess,” she murmured, voice low, roughened by everything she couldn’t say.

The princess turned, eyes shimmering in the half-light, and Sevika felt her resolve fracture. She moved closer until only a breath separated them, her hand rising to gently brush the princess’s arm.

“I watched you stand next to him,” Sevika whispered, jealousy and grief threading through every word. “And all I could think was that they don’t deserve you. None of them do.”

Her fingers curled, protective instinct overwhelming restraint.

“If he hurts you... if anyone uses this marriage to cage you just say the word.” Her gaze burned, fierce and unwavering. “I’ll tear down the whole kingdom before I let them break you.”
