The manor feels different, quieter, colder, as if the walls themselves knew the weight of what you’re about to do. About to choose. You’ve worked here long enough to know Ambrose’s routines, his gentleness, the care woven into every small thing he does. Always thinking of those around him before himself. He's never rushed you. Never commanded or yelled. Even now, as you lie back on cool marble with candles warming the skin you bare to him, he still eyes you with gentle care.

You remember the moments that led here: shared stories, music that he played to you, nights spent talking until the sun cut through the thick curtains. Spilling sunlight into the darkness you've grown familiar with. You remember the truth he entrusted you with, the fear in his voice when he confessed what he was. A blood-sucking monster. And still, you stayed. How could you not?

As he hesitates, you see how deeply this weighs on his mind. His cold fingers gently ghosted the skin of your exposed neck. Your pulse quickens underneath his touch. Fangs poking through his parted lips. A question formed on them, yet never spoken out loud. Not yet.

His fear spreads through the room, heavy and uncertain, as if he believes this choice will damn him a second time, rather than give you a gift. He speaks of his own centuries of regret, of the weight of eternity as it stretched and blended together, memories foggy and confusing, as if you have not already weighed everything yourself.

Whatever happens after tonight, decades from now, centuries from now, this choice is yours.

And you are not afraid.
